May 2014 discount or rent points?

I am trying to book our next trip which will be after Memorial Day. If I rent points I can save a bundle over rack rate. I searched historical discounts and found that the discount for BLT was only 5%. The only drawbacks I see for renting points is paying in full up front (that's a chuck of $$$) and possibly having problems with Magic Bands, FP+ etc...because of the different emails (mine vs booking member) on the MDE app.

What would you do?

Trip dates would be 5/27 to 6/6 for me, DH, DS17, DS17's friend and DS11.

Thanks!
Kari

Our May vacations always include Memorial Day and we've gotten discounts at least for the last three years and possibly more (too lazy to go back and look back further ;)). We have never stayed at BLT so I'm not sure what the discount was for that particular resort. We stay in the moderate resort category and the last special offer that we took advantage of was a % off the room and discounted tickets.

I've thought about renting points but I can't make myself pay so much money up front and, from what I understand, it's non-refundable and that makes me leery.

I agree, as much as I would love to stay DVC, renting points excludes you from taking advantage of any discount promotions and it is non-refundable. We went to WDW this past May and there was a general public spring room only discount offer that also included a discount on park tickets if booked as a package.

If I were absolutely sure that I was making the trip, and there were no possibilities of cancelling (other than a true unforeseen emergency)...I would rent points. It will almost always be a better discount than anything WDW offers. I'm not someone who uses the dining plan, so any free dining promotion doesn't intrigue me.

Do you know when (approximately) these discounts were announced? I just booked the Cabins at Ft Wilderness for may 10-16.

Thanks in advance!

FYI I rented my points to a friend of ours this summer to use at BLT and they got in the magic bands trial. They had no problem coordinating everything with Disney with information. Disney contacted me and I sent the information to my friend, she contacted them directly and they set everything up in one phone call. She had even already purchased her tickets from undercover tourist and they linked everything together for her. Just FYI, so you don't have to worry about the magic bands and renting. Or at least, she didn't. :)
