May 2014 car rentals

Hi all, pretty sure we will need some kind of discount for a rental car for our trip, can not believe the prices right now!!

So our trip is may 6 - may 15, which is a week and 2 days, I know I am going to get jacked for those extra two days... Of which we will be at the dark side... So here is my current thinking... Rent from Avis at mco on arrival day and drop off on our way to check in at RPR on the 13th... Actually what would probably happen is check in, hubby and kiddo go haul the stuff to the room, I drive over to doubletree across the way and return the car and walk back. This would save those 2 days of rental, and the parking fee at RPR, and trying to fill up the car and return it at the crack of dawn on the 15th for our 7:30 am flight home. It's quite possible that the rent from one place return to another might be more money though... What do you all think??

Okay, a little research and I found that I could drop my car at Avis at the doubletree, budget by holiday inn, Alamo at four points Sheraton, or dollar at international palms... Plus hertz is on site there at universal... Right now they are all over $700 for my dates for a week rental... Too soon for discount codes, all the ones I have found expire 12/31.... But boy, that really has to come down!!

You do realize that you likely won't see reasonable prices until a month or two out? Renting a car 10 months out won't do you any good.

I guess it depends on the market! I didn't realize this for Orlando... I had to rent a minivan for our Kauai trip 10 months out because of low inventory... and I have had discounts applied twice to the rental... went from $610 for 10 nights to $571 for the same time frame... and I think that is a steal for a mini-van, rates now 4 weeks out are astronomical... I could get an economy car for $200 though...
