~May 14, 2011~ Eastbound Transatlantic Cruise on the Magic!

Hello all! Looks like we might be on this cruise. Just have to wait and see what the dance season schedule will look like for my daughter (she'll be 9 at time of sailing). If the end of year recital is in June again next year we should be good to go!

We booked two dummy dates while on board a week ago so we plan to move one of those over to the EBTA.

Hopefully we'll know in another week if I get up the nerve to bug the dance studio owner ;)

Jim

Ok, it's over to the TA to book us now. So here's our info:

Roll Call

Jim

:cool1::woohoo::banana::yay::cheer2:

I'm just bummed we have to come back almost immediately because of DD's dance recital! Ah well. :)

It looks like this year's EBTA DIS group was *huge*! And did a *ton* of extra stuff! Looks like it was loads of fun - I'm so looking forward to this!

Amanda

We didn't mean to kill the thread. ;) I guess it is still a little ways away though.

Hope everyone from the US had a nice 4th of July. We spent the entire day at the fitness club pool where they had a wonderful view of the town's fireworks.

Oh, looks like flights from all airlines are available now coming back from Barcelona. We're talking about taking a short flight to London, spending two nights there, and then flying back on Memorial day. I just keep watching Orbitz and travelocity every day for the best price!

Jim

Welcome to the cruise :) I'm still not sure just how tropics this cruise will be. Doesn't seem like the area will be all that warm but I guess it is still better than German winters :)

Flights are driving us crazy right now. I can book a non-stop, refundable ticket from London to Raleigh but it will cost us $3100. Or I can find a 1-stop refundable for $2770. Or I can piece together our own flights and get it down to $2000 but some of the legs are non-refundable and we're bouncing between airlines to get the cheapest.

I just hate that the airfare is going to cost more than the cruise!

Jim

Yeah, um, anything is tropical compared to our winters here :) I really am looking forward to castaway cay, and madeira, both of which should be pretty warm by then - we were in northern italy around the same time of year this year, and it was just wonderful upper 70's and 80's - i imagine cadiz etc to be the same or a bit warmer!

Thankfully - we won't worry about airfare - we will take a hop to the states, hang around WDW for a bit before the cruise, and come on back - our only airfare should be from BCN, which is running us 600 r/t for this summer . .

who knows - but it is just nice to have something to look forward to!

My family sailed on the 6/24/10 Magic cruise to the Baltic.
It was such a great trip. We booked the Med sailing 5/24/11 while onboard.
Hoping to join all of you on the TA 5/14/11. Any history of rates dropping for
this sailing as it gets closer? Someone told me it usually sails at half of its
capacity...any truth to this?

I believe that the last EBTA sailed at ~1900 passengers, but all cabins were booked. They may have more discounting closer to the cruise, but it's already pretty cheap - we're finding that for the 3 of us, it's more expensive to fly home than to sail there! We figured it out at the current price for our Cat 11 it's ~ $69/person/night, which is less than the deluxe dining plan at WDW! :rotfl:

Thanks for the information. We were told by someone not to book our Cat 5 until 12/10, that rates should drop around then for the EBTA 5/11.
I am now wondering if I do wait, I will have a hard time getting what I want.
It is hard to convince my DH to spend more on a cruise right now since, we just returned from the Baltic and now have to pay for the Med 5/28, which we booked while onboard.
Not to mention that we leave 7/31/10 for a five night to Canada on Carnival.
Why, oh why, can life not be one big vacation? :))

Welcome!!

We're just down the hall in 6015! We had 6003 on the Wonder for B2B 5-nights this June, and the sideways Cat 11s are awesome! Though we're hoping with staterooms on all sides of us, that we won't be awoken in the middle of the night by someone dropping a broom handle against our bedroom wall. Every night. Ugh. :rotfl:

Hello, I will be on this cruise with my wife and 5 year old daughter and 1 year old son, DD's birthday will be on the ship:)

This will be our second cruise, first being Mexican Riviera, 7 nights

OK now...we just got back from the Northern European Capitals cruise...which was absolutely amazing!!!! Now I have time to lurk here. We just booked our flights to Orlando and our return flight home after the cruise. We have decided to stay in Paris for a week post-cruise. Anybody else? Now we need to figure how to get from Barcelona to Paris...train of fly...time will tell. Other than that less than a year to go!!!!

right now - i know air france is pretty darned cheap into barcelona - we are flying in two weeks, and booked from munch to barcelona, w/ layover @ CDG, for 200 euro pp, r/t.

keep an eye on it - - - travelocity was advertising a cheaper flight, but magically every time i would try to book it, it was never available. air frances' site was easy to navigate, and had a comparable cheap rate, too...

thanks...i'll check it out. we are concerned mostly with the luggage restrictions we hear about flying between European countries. with all the baggage we will have from the transatlantic...ugh!!!

Our plan is to fly to London for a few days, then fly home from there. I'm hoping to talk my husband into shipping some luggage home from Barcelona. :) I don't look forward to having to tote 2 weeks worth of baggage to London for 3 days!

FYI - at least for us in NC, it's cheaper to fly home from London than Paris. Even if you figure in getting to London.

Updated the roll call, everyone!!! Please check it. I posted on the main DCL board and on the 2010 April EBTA about airfare (DCL vs Booking on own). Anyone know where they got deals on one way fares? They are VERY expensive (for what I've found). We got roundtrip (to MCO and home from Barcelona) via DCL for $750 adults/$600 child. I'm just worried about who we'll fly, how many transfers/layovers, will we all sit together. Anyone here ever use DCL for air fare before?
