So what makes a good ice-breaker? I think it’s one that is both fun, but also lets reveals something about people, so the group really gets to know one another. Sometimes I pick ones that are more fun and less revealing, and other times I choose more serious ones that are also more revealing. You can gauge as the leader which ones work when. Maybe this is the newest tightrope—balancing fun with revealing!

Anyway here you go, by popular demand, the Top 10 Best Icebreakers:

10. Share one food item that best describes the last year of your life. (example: “frozen pizza” because I did a 180-degree turn this year, or “cinnamon roll” because it had lots of twists and turns but overall was pretty sweet)
is there a crazy food? Probably a pretzel, as this year has been crazy as far as property taxes and insurance going sky high and making my tummy upset!

9. What one item in the kitchen best describes you and your personality?
the corkscrew!

8. What’s your favorite concert you’ve ever attended?
Van Halen!! My Favorite group - I even went to the Sammy-David tour almost fully pregnant with Samantha!

7. What cartoon character best describes you?
Come on, Jessica Rabbit! --- "I'm not bad...."

6. If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?
Anywhere south of Florida!

5. Complete the statement “I recommend…” (it can be a show, movie, book, restaurant, website, activity, etc.)
sinking your toes in the sand and wrapping your arms around your family and friends watching a gorgeous sunset!

4. If you knew could you try anything and not fail (and money was no object), what dream would you attempt?
how can you not have so many dreams? My dreams will always be with me, but had I accomplished them without failure, I would not be who I am and where I am today. My dream now, is for my girls to grow up happy and that thier "life becomes all they want it too!"

3. What super-power would you most like to have, and why?
super power - at first I thought, invisibility - but would I really want to know, on second thought either bringing back the dead or being able to introduce the love of my life and my girls to my Grandaddy!

2. If you had $5 million to spend in 5 days, but couldn’t spend any of it on yourself or your family, what would you do with it?
my Grandfather died of bile duct cancer, not something you hear of often. I would like $5 million to go to ONE type of cancer research to find a cure. I will always believe if all these brilliant doctors will come together, they have the ability to start knocking off this disease.

1. “2 Truths And a Lie” – Share 3 unique things about yourself and your life, 2 of them true, 1 false, and let the group guess which one isn’t true.
I was proposed to on the Florida "F", I streaked through the PIKE house on a dare, I once relieved myself in a Pringles can on a road trip, I danced in a parade down Main St USA (WDW), I fell off the stage in a performace of West Side Story - and yes, I was Jet's girl. .....wait, I can't make this stuff up!

Ok, ladies

I have a question. DM and I are leaving for a cruise in 10 days, and yesterday she went and had a pedi and mani, her toes look awesome, but for some reason she decided to book a pedi and manicure for me on Saturday.

Is she trying to tell me something? (BTW she isn't paying, lol)

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Well, if she were paying I would say she just wanted to give you a treat but since she's NOT paying I would have to say she's telling you that you need a pedi and mani! :confused3

I have a foot touching thing, it is my ticklish spot, really ticklish really really. I love a mani, was doing one anyways, but I am looking forward the the messaging chair that they have for when they do the pedi, now what colour do I get, I am fairly pale and so are my legs and feet, thinking something basic like pale pale pink?

oh and last night, since Samantha wasn't feeling well she was snuggling with me all night. She turns to me at one point and says, mom, if you die, I will take care of your jewelry and Haley for you. OH, I was a little bit flabbergasted. They are talking about saftey issues at school, I don't think dying has come up but....I guess the diamonds come before Haley.
Too funny!:rotfl:

Just popping in to say Hi. I try to keep up but haven't been very successful lately. Have dealt with a leg infection that required IV antibiotics (not fun and not something I want to repeat!), bronchitis that still won't go away, Mom's surgery, Dad's visit and tests for Jim -- it might be his gallbladder. Hoping to be healthy by cruise time. :goodvibes

Fiona
:grouphug: Here's to some healthier times! Lisa

Did anybody figure out who is doing lanyards?
I haven't read anything. Cdnmickeylover - should we create a team? I think there are several people that have interest. Or does someone want to do it and sell like the bracelets??

I blew out of the office at 3PM, met Peg for a cocktail and nosh, then we went to her house and sat on the patio reading books all evening. Very nice!
Wow! That is amazing. Congrats!

Off to the gym.:yay: :faint:
Very impressed!

I am feeling worse today...very stuffed up - I hope this goes away soon! I think the only well one is Haley at the moment. I am hoping to use the weekend to rest and get better.

It was 74 this morning, I had to get a sweater and Samantha has pants on! She'll probably be hot later on.
Hope you are feeling better.
Look what I'm going to see tonight! http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/showstickets/saltimbanco/intro/intro.htm

My friend Cindy (who I'm cruising with) won 2 free tickets to tonight's 7pm show. I've had such an awful week already, in all aspects of life, it will be good to go someplace where I can shut off my brain for a bit. :cloud9:
How was it? After hearing about all the trouble with Tyler, you deserve a nice night out!
I just wanted to share some good news.

My brother has finally been told that his stem cell transplant worked. :woohoo: He was originally told they would know after 2-3 weeks and it has been 7 weeks, so he was pretty much convinced it hadn't taken.

He is still very seriously ill, from the damage caused both by the disease itself (myeloid fibrosis) and by the chemotherapy - from which his liver has suffered particularly badly. But at least he now knows it is worth continuing to fight through it all because hopefully he will eventually recover completely.

Thank you for all your prayers and pixie dust.
Yeah!

Guess What? Daniel comes home tomorrow for his High School Homecoming!! I am so excited!!
Have fun visiting!

Now, a question.

What actually does 'Homecoming' mean? I have heard it such a lot, usually to do with schools and colleges.

The word itself sounds like it is a big party for people returning home.

Still feeling a bit "under the weather"...

Read all the posts, just not quite up to posting replies.

Hope everyone is feeling better, resolving issues, having fun planning trips, having a good day!

Marilyn,

Homecoming is when students that have graduated, usually from High School or College, return in the fall for a "return home to their Alma Mater".:thumbsup2

There is usually a parade and a football (not soccer) game and sometimes there are floats!!:cheer2:

Karen

Thanks for the info Karen.

I hope you are soon feeling completely well again. Take care.

I missed out a couple of those replies as I didn't have an answer really!

Our High School Homeciming is a big big deal. Remember, Westfield has 4,000 kids and this year they are on track to be the VA state champion football team. Our stadium holds about 12,000 and it will be full tomorrow night with returning students that are in college now. It gives them a time to see each other and catch up.

We play Fairfax, which is not a very good team...so most people will be chatting instead of watching!! They now carry all the Westfield games live on the internet, so if you can't go you can listen!!

Friday afternoon there is a parade. I think I heard 20 floats......and marching bands and lots of fun!!

Then Saturday night there is a big dinner party and a formal dance. Vanessa was asked by about 20 boys to go as their date, but decided to go with a group instead which makes me happy.

I am not much of a shopper, but we spent a whole day trying on dresses...before she decided on one and then we spent a whole day trying on shoes!! No my idea of much fun.......

But anyway, Daniel gets to come home, although I imagine I will not see him much, at least I will see him for a little while
