I read that the Contemporary allows up to 5 people per room. We are going with another couple and their young daugther and would prefer to stay in one room, since we will spend little time there. There will be 4 adults and two 3 year olds in our room. Will the children count as part of the 5? Since they are so little, can we count them as a half to equal our fifth? Will they make us upgrade to a suite if there are more than 5 of us?

Three is the cut off age for not having a person count in your room total. I suppose that is because 3 year olds sleep in a bed and not a crib. I've never heard of being able to count someone as a 1/2 a person. If Disney knows you have two 3 year olds in the room, they will each be counted as a whole person. And if you told them that there was only 1 3 year old or 1 of them was only 2 years old, that would mean you couldn't have your park tickets on your room key.

Most Contemporary rooms accomodate five guests, plus one child under age 3 in a crib. Disney will not allow any more than that, whether they are children or adults.

Also want to note that by having the other couple stay in the room with you, you'll also be subjected to a $50 per night surcharge for having 2 additional adults in the room. You really are better off booking two rooms, since the stated occupancy limit is 5 plus one under 3 in a crib.
