Maximizing quick service dining plan?

Hi!

We're just about packed and ready to head on our universal adventure :)

I was curious the thoughts on the quick service dining options universal has. Are there meals and treats we can buy that maxizime the value of the plan, or are we really better off eating whatever we want?

I don't foresee us eating a ton but we are on site for 4 days so there is enough opportunity to use the plan if it does indeed save us some $ .

No dietary restrictions so... Do we or do we not?

I just thought of something else.

If your entree is $14 or more, I find the dining plan to be a good deal.

You will be left with a snack credit and a drink credit. Butterbeer is considered a snack.

You can get an icee for the drink credit.

You do not have to buy it until you are at the register.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I had similar questions. Why does it include a drink credit if it comes with a freestyle refillable mug? Is it complicated to get the plan? It's not something I really want to go out of my way to do if I'm only going to save a dollar or two. Do I get whatever I want with it?

And if I have an AP, I'm guessing this takes away the value of it a good bit. But if I'm already spending $16 on the mug (minus $1.60 AP discount so $14.40) that means all I'd have to do is get the Fish and Chips at 3 Broomsticks (which I'm pretty sure is what I'd want) to come out even. Then I basically get a free churro or butterbeer out of the deal.

Unrelated but similar, can I pay for my group using my AP and can I let THEM use my AP to pay separately?

Only the owner of the AP can use it but you can definitely pay for your group and have them reimburse you.

You can get the plan at the cash register of any restaurant. It is very simple.

If you buy the meal plan that includes the mug, you do not get a separate drink entitlement, and you are expected to use the mug with your entree too. If you buy a drink when having the meal plan with mug, it will be charged as your snack credit. You do not get an AP discount on either the plan with drink and snack, or plan with mug and snack. The only discount I have seen with the plan and mug with snack, is if you show the American Express discount on your phone's Universal app, or show it from Universal's American Express page. Then it's a discount about the same as the AP one, if you pay with your American Express card.

Sometimes I find it a deal, sometimes I'd rather just use my AP, for the discount on food. I've bought the meal with mug one time, but decided, carrying around that mug was annoying, and we did not get the use of it the day we had it. Good thing is, you do not have to use the entree, snack and drink the same day. I've saved the meal card to use on a later trip, or days between using the credits.
