Maximize the Cooling.....

So, I was just musing as we are planning (or rather continuing to plan) our trip to the fort in a couple of weeks. Since we boondock on the way down and don't have access to household voltage (well except the inverter), I was looking at ways to keep cool when we stop. Of course there is the obvious, SHADE, but as I work on a 12 volt Ice A/C (You know... the cooler with ice in it and a fan that blows the air through it) To get us through the trip, I was wondering about a couple of things...

First I was thinking that I could leave the exhaust fan in the bathroom on (assuming no rain issues) to help keep the hot air out (or at least moving). Thermodynamics says heat rises, so this could help.

As I thought more, particularly as I am working on the TT at home, where it sits in the sun, the AC is having a hard time keeping up. I am wondering about how well it would do if I had the Exhaust fan on and the AC on at the same time? So the logic hear is Heat rises and cool falls. Maybe be a better cooling?

Going a step further, I have a Pure Sine Wave inverter (3000W continuous, 6000W Surge). Wondering if I could then leave the AC on and exhaust fan on for at least an hour before we pull over for the night to cool things down and then use the 12 V fans and my Ice Cooler AC to get through the night more comfortably? My concern here is, will the Truck keep enough charge on the batteries to keep up with the AC? (I have 2 batteries.) I think I might have to Beef Up the Wires to the batteries though if it's gong to be a heavy draw.

I'd love to hear anyone else's thoughts?

Have you looked into the Camco vent covers? They allow you to keep the vents open going down the road thus allowing the passing wind of the trip to "pull" the hot air from the camper. I have two that I have ordered from Amazon but waiting to install when i next take the cover off.

Neighbor has them installed and their camper was significantly cooler than mine when we arrived at the campground.

Good thing is it also keeps rain out of the camper so you can keep the vent open.

What Michael says is a great idea I can keep our exhaust vents in the coach open most of the time when we have it at open. When we go out to do things in it I just turn on the fans and start circulating the air and hottest air is drawn out before I start the AC Just make sue open face is towards rear of TT

I had looked at them in the past. I was afraid that I would have to drill into the roof of the RV or have to disassemble the Vent itself to install this. I just watched a video on it and that is not at all the case. I do have to drill into the vent side (the lip) but I am okay with that. For 23 dollars on amazon... I think it's a good investment.

Also, we have had 2 kinds of exhaust fans. One had small blades one had larger blades. If you have the small blades it is so worth it to switch it out. The large blades will suck the door closed!
