Max Pass on Phones with Unlimited Photo Pass?

When it comes to the Max Pass and the unlimited photo pass if you pay $10 for it when buying your park tickets, both of these are only accessible via the Disney Park app for Disneyland/California Adventure right? Or is the photo pass still a physical card thing? I have not been to either park in years so not sure on the set up.

No physical card for the last couple years unless you take a card from one PP photographer and have the next one scan it. They like to scan the bar code on your phone, which replaces the PP card (which honestly I kind of miss, but such is Disney lol)
