I thought this was worth sharing and hadn't seen it posted yet..

A 13-year-old eight grade girl won a chance to sing the national anthem at a Portland Trailblazers game. Instead of singing the anthem being one of the proudest moments of her life, it wound up being one of the most embarrasing when she forgot the words.

Until Trailblazers coach Maurice Cheeks got up and sang the anthem with her.

The complete story is here. It's definitely worth a read. Also, check out the e-mail the blazers are recieving.

Just when you think that there aren't any of them left in professional sports, Mo Cheeks turns out to be one of the good guys.

Gene saw that when it happened and it moved him to tears. Maurice Cheeks has always been a class act.

OMGOSH That is one of the one of the most beautiful things I have read in a very long time!!!

BRAVO!!!BRAVO!!!!!!!!

That is so sweet!!! What a wonderful thing for him to have done!!!

I read that the other day, and was choked up just reading it. A very sweet story!!

I saw it on ESPN--it was so awesome!

What a wonderful thing to do:D

No doubt. When she was in an arena filled with 15,000 people watching this train wreck happen, Mo stepped in & helped her out.

I'm told that the whole crowd jumped in soon after & it was quite a site. What could have ended as an embarrassing episode turned into something powerful.

Mo Cheeks has always been a class act & I think he just did what came naturally to him. :)

I saw it and it was just beautiful! I'll never forget the way she looked up into his eyes and said, "Thank you" and the way he patted her on the shoulder. He's a great man! :)

What a touching story!!!
Thanks, Maurice, for showing your class act to all the world!!!

I am sitting here at work with tears streaming down my face. What a beautiful story. What a simple thing to do - and yet how many would have actually done it?

Ditto. Kind of makes SOME of the current crop of NBA "stars" look really bad. A certain 76er comes to mind.....

Living in Portland, there has been so much negative press surrounding this team for as long as I've been here. Between RA-sheed (he really pronounces his name like that), Damon and Quintel Woods - the irie brothers, Ruben "I rape my nannys" Patterson, Zack "I punch the dude who rapes his nannys" Randolph and Scottie "I am not a leader" Pippen, this team is VERY hard to root for. That said, after Mo did that for this little girl, I became a fan again.

In all honesty, when they hired Cheeks, I questioned it because he was an unproven commodity. For once, Bob Whitsitt hired a man because of his character, not because of his past performance. If only he would have done that when signing his players, Team Turmoil would not exist and there would not be this whole jailbird mentality associated with the Blazers.

I saw a replay of the entire thing yesterday. Cheeks was awesome for what he did. I felt so bad for that girl, but now I think her memories of singing the anthem will be even better than if she had got it right the first time.
