Pre-Trip Report
Day 1
Day 2
Da Crew: Me, 22 year old stud 8) Graduated from Pace University in New York City
Emily: Younger sister
Naomi: Youngest sister who's afraid of roller coasters
Mom & Dad: Those people with all the money.
Lodging: Hotel Royal Plaza at Downtown Disney
Duration: 5/26 - 5/29
Transportation: Song Airlines from Hartford, CT
We woke up on Friday morning bright and early. The game plan today? MGM, MGM, and MGM! After getting dressed and all, we headed out of the hotel and ate breakfast at Waffle House where I had my always-awesome-hashbrowns. Being the Disney commando I am, I rallied the troops, had them scarf down their food and off we went to the Studios. My parents opted to not go with us to the parks today as they really didn't want to go so it was
just me and my sisters. I explained to them after getting dropped off how it was Star Wars Weekend at the Studios, to which my sister said, "Ugh, why can't it be like Sex and the CIty Weekend?". I did not dignify that question with a response.
We were a little late getting in because the line I was in to buy tickets was one of those lines where everyone on line must play 20 questions with the CM at the ticket booth. I swear, it was slower than the line at Dumbo. After finally getting in, we Fastpassed Tower and waited in line for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. The line was allready 30 minutes long and right in the sun. It was at this point as we stood in that line under the sun that we realized deoderant is a myth. My little sister refused to ride Coaster or Tower as she was still too scared of it. She had ridden Tower on our last trip but that was it for her and the idea of Coaster going upside down freaked her out. Well the running joke for the rest of the trip was whenever we went to a different attraction, such as Great Movie Ride for example, we would tell her it goes 0-60 and goes upside down.
Hey, what are big brothers for? The park was fairly crowded, although mostly just for Tower and Coaster. Even Star Tours, which was engulfed in a sea of Star Wars fans, had only a 10 minute wait.
We had a PS at 50's Primetime Cafe for lunch for about 1:00. Emmy had eaten there once before but neither me nor Naomi had eaten there before. Naomi was freaked out because of how the waiters there made public spectacles of people who didn't finish their food or had their elbows on the table. Our waiter, however, was pretty tame. He just made some corny jokes but whenever some of the other tables got abused, Naomi was totally petrified. It was funny for us. And yes, we told her that our lunch table would go 0-60 and upside down.
After lunch my sisters went back to the resort but I stayed back and spent the rest of the day at MGM by myself. By this point, it was roughly 300 degrees(give or take) outside so I did the "A/C Tour" which consists of Sounds Dangerous, Muppetvision, Millionaire & Animation Tour. Once I finished those, it was after 3:00pm and the temperature dropped to a balmy 150 degrees. At Millionaire, I swear, someone had it out for me. On the fastest finger question, some 11 year old decided to just smash the keys randomly and actually won so he was in the hot seat. Well during his questions, I had them all right and was nailing the questions in record time but I could never get above 5th place on the leader board. After he got bounced at the $1000 question, I thought for sure I'd be in the hot seat so I was making sure I would like great for when they called my seat but alas, I was in....5th place. Anyway, I spent the rest of the day doing one of two things: using my sisters tickets to get lots of fastpasses for Tower and Coaster as well as trying to find Jillian. For those who don't know, Jillian is a friend of mine who works at the Studios as a CM. Basically, I looked at every CM and tried to read their nametags, to no avail. Of course, I got a little sidetracked from looking for her whenever my Fastpass times came up, but can you blame me?
Anyway, I knew she worked Fantasmic! so when that finally opened for people to go in, I asked one of the other people working there if she was working that night and he said no. It was at that point that I remembered she had told me earlier she wasn't working that day.
I'm going to blame the heat for my lack of a coherent thought process. Regardless, I had breakfast plans with her for tomorrow so all was not lost. I spent the rest of the evening riding Coaster and Tower. My parents thought I was nuts for not only being outside in the heat all day but for going by myself. They picked me up at closing time and went back to the hotel to rest up for another day in the parks.
Things I Learned:
- Deoderant and /or antiperspirant is indeed a myth
- It's hot in Florida
- Your eperience at 50's Primetime is alot like your experience on the Jungle Cruise; it all depends on who your CM is. Some are better than others. Food wasn't that bad.
- It gets even hotter in the afternoon in Florida
- Staring at CM's chests to see what their nametag says can sometimes get you odd looks
