Starting June 13 the Matterhorn is listed as being closed for Refurb. It states "Matterhorn Bobsleds - 2011 Ph 1" Anyone have insider info on this?

I've heard that they are getting new sleds and possible retracking... Is that what this is ????

Aww, that's disappointing. We'll be there on June 23rd and I figured late June would be a good time to avoid major refurbs. I was looking forward to riding all the rides that Disney World doesn't have. Oh well. I guess it just gives me an excuse to come back again.

This is unusual in late June. And it is not a major refurb. Splash Mtn is doing a major refurb.

I was planning for June 23-24 at DLR myself and might switch dates to the week following.

bummer well, I guess you can't win them all. I think this is when we are going the 21-24?? We will see....

This is the kind of thing I was thinking would happen. There was that other recent thread about the early June Big Thunder refurb. I kind of figure that something's got to give. With the big Splash refurb ongoing and the Star Tours reboot and all the other little projects, not to mention the giant construction at DCA, it makes sense that some of the yearly maintenance things have had to be put off to "unusual" times when some personnel and resources might finally be freed up again from these other projects. With all the new offerings that Disney has coming soon, they can afford to take one or two rides out of commission for a brief (probably even longer) period of time at almost any time of year and still be able to sustain the crowd levels of high season. The old "rules" may not be quite as reliable anymore.

Wow, thanks for the info! I haven't ridden the Matterhorn in FOREVER and am going June 17-19....hopefully we can get to ride on June 18 or 19...otherwise, bummer! Well, that means we will have to go back sooner than later!

Surprised at the June refurb...usually they try to finish everything up before the crowds pour in. Oh well...

Well phooey! pirate: I am the last person in the world to get bent out of shape about refurbs. However we will be making our first (and only?) DLR trip June 13-17. Being a WDW vet the Matterhorn was one attraction I was especially looking forward to trying.
I figured when I picked our dates and booked we would be safe from stuff like that. Oh well... plenty more fun to be had out there I am sure.

Our first trip to DL too during this time!
Oh well, maybe since we've never been on the Matterhorn we won't know what we'll be missing...:worried:

Maybe I'll just go ride Expedition Everest next time I go to WDW and then think to myself... "Matterhorn Schmatterhorn. Meh"

I hope you and yours have a fantastic trip. My gang and I sure are excited about our upcoming vacation

Very interesting....I was expecting a major refurb sometime this year for the Matterhorn. Maybe later on this year?
Hopefully they will be running when I go in August! :)

Maybe... :)

I'm shocked too I wouldn't think they would have refurbs during the big summer months and esp during the start of Nightastic!!

That is the week we will be there too and we are already losing one day to grad night. BOOOO!

This stinks! We were there in December and never got to ride on it once because of the terrible rains and now this. :(

I'm about to cry. I just started a thread (will go delete it in a moment, if I can) asking about this and then found this one. This is our first DL in 10 years. This is probably my all-time favorite Disney ride, and I'd planned to ride it a gajillion times to get my fix. Don't know when we'll get back to DL again. ARGH!!

DH just had a suggestion...what if we called up and expressed our disappointment at the ride not being open during peak season. Do you think it would change? Do you think they would move it to a different time?

No, but if you can get 50,000 people a day to do it, then possibly.

Hmmm...do they have caller ID? I could dedicate all of my time for an entire week to calling 50,000 times a day asking them to open it back up. Unfortunately, that means I would have to make 34 calls a minute, and I don't know if I have 50,000 different voices I can make... I guess Matterhorn will have to wait until a future visit. :sad2:

I only wish they would put these refurb schedules up way in advance. I've been checking schedules since the beginning of the year when we started planning.

This is quite possibly my only trip to DLR, maybe ever. Having said that -I knew going in that DLR payed by different rules and pulled last minute refurbs more often than WDW. I surely did not expect a headliner to be down for the week I planned in mid-June. Seems like odd planning on Disney's part.

Meh, no use in worrying about what I can't change or missing what I never got the chance to experience.

Going to DLR for our honeymoon June 20th-27th is there a chance they make the refurb longer? (I sure hope not!)
