For anyone who has been to both WDW & DL, Ca, would you say that the Matterhorn Bobsleds are more white knuckle than Big Thunder in WDW?

Also, how does Indiana Jones compare to Dinosaur, or are they incomparable?

Thanks for any help!

Indy is much better than Dino. :thumbsup2

More thrilling. Much better themed - especially the queue area. Some comic relief included in the ride.

The Matterhorn was about on par with WDW's Space Mountain. Seating configuration, bumpy ride, etc. However, that MAY change following the refurb.

Dinosaur is probably my LEAST favorite Disney ride. Indy is one of my favorites. The enjoyability of the ride has nothing to do with the vehicle. Riding in the dark with dinosaurs screaming at me is not my idea of a good time. Feeling like the bridge is coming out from under you even though logically you know it isn't... kind of is my idea of a good time!

Indy 100% better then Dinosaur. Dino just seemed loud and obnoxious. My boys didn't even want to ride it again and they love Indy.

I've only done the Matterhorn once and that was enough for me. It's a bumpy whip you around the corner ride with peek-a-boo holes in the mountain. We rode it as a family and my little kids did fine. I'm just not a roller coaster girl. I did space mountain once and that was enough for me and my DH would say Rockin Rollercoaster is better then California Screamin (I did that once and not again!)

I liked Splash better at WDW then DL, it seemed like a fast ride and you couldn't take in the scenery and then DH and I sat in the back and we got soaked where in WDW you would barely get wet in the back.

That's my take on the similar rides.

Pirates is alot better in DL as well, IMO. Can't wait to ride it with my 5 year old next week!!!

I like Dino but Indy is a better ride, better effects etc. The ride cars and track are about the same between the two, but entirely different theme.

Matterhorn is a fairly tame coaster. There are no steep drops, Big Thunder is steeper and feels faster. Its rather rough like Space Mountain at WDW.

Don't miss Space Mountain at Disneyland. Very different than WDW's. DL's is smooth with better effects and in car sound.

Big Thunder at Disneyland is nearly identical to WDW's except the track is a mirror image. Where you'd turn right at WDW, you'll turn left at DL etc.

We just got back from WDW, our first trip there. We went to DLR last in 2010. I must say, while we loved WDW, we prefer Disneyland's magic kingdom over WDW. AK, DHS and Epcot are a whole different story.

I don't know if Indy and Dinosaur can really be compared. We liked Dinosaur, but once you've been on it, it's not a ride that makes you want to run back to the line to go again. We've ridden Indy multiple times in a day on more than one occasion. It jostles you around a bit, but it's a fun ride.

The Matterhorn is a great rollercoaster, again a bit jostly, but not super scary, like someone else said, about on par with WDW's Space Mountain (and again as someone else said, Space Mountain at DLR is much smoother, I like it much better there). Big Thunder Mountain was closed for refurbishment when we were at WDW, so I can't compare.

If you've never been to DLR I have to tell you to make sure to ride Pirates of the Caribbean. It is IMMENSELY better at DLR. The ride is twice as long and has more interesting elements. I also recommend having lunch or dinner at the Blue Bayou where you can watch the ride boats go by.

I miss DLR, and want to go back so much! We're going back to WDW on our next trip in spring 2013, but I'm going to try to set up a special trip for my birthday in the summer at DLR.

Don't let the locals know that you refer to Disneyland as MK! :rotfl:

Another vote for Indy :thumbsup2 such an awesome ride!! And I DO enjoy Dinosaur, but Indy's way much better.

I never thought DLP was called that either but, the narration on the Disneyland Railroad specifically refers to a making a "grand circle tour of the magic kingom." Not sure if that's uppercase or lowercase.

Before WDW was built, Disneyland was quite often referred to by its nickname The Magic Kingdom. So not too far off!! lol

Both main parks have been referred to that way since I was a little girl and first started visiting DLR, around 1978. Disneyland was the first Magic Kingdom, and will always be.

All of the Disneyland-type parks are "Magic Kingdom" parks. So DL in California, MK in Florida, DLP in Paris, TDL in Tokyo and HKDL in Hong Kong are all Magic Kingdoms. But it is only in Florida where we and Disney actually call the park "Magic Kingdom". Everywhere else, while the parks are Magic Kingdoms, we call them by different names - Disneyland (California), Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland.

Some people refer to the theme park Disneyland as "Disneyland Park" to distinguish it from "Disneyland Resort". So it sometimes gets abbreviated to DLP which does confuse with DLP (Disneyland Paris).

In general when anyone says "Disneyland" it is hard to know if they mean the park in California or the resort in California. Usually when someone means the park they just call it "DL". And when they mean the resort they call it "DLR".

Many of you know this already but for those who don't, there it is! :)

::yes::

Growing up we used to called Disneyland either Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom.

We have the Original Magic Kingdom. ;)

Many have already answered pretty accurately, but I wanted to throw my .02 in. :)

The Matterhorn is more fun than WDW's Big thunder, IMO, but Big Thunder feels like more of a traditional coaster due to the track layout. Thunder has longer stretches of winding turns, but Matterhorn has quick short turns that you can't get on a traditional coaster. It was pretty jostley, but after the refurb it probably won't be nearly as much.

Also, how does Indiana Jones compare to Dinosaur, or are they incomparable?

It doesn't compare. The track and the vehicles is where the comparisons should stop. Indiana Jones is one of the best attractions in all of DLR. Dinosaur is just loud and annoying.

This is true. In fact many people (in and outside of Disney) still call Disneyland "Walt Disney's original Magic Kingdom."

And, take a look at this.
