I know there are some helpful math people out there, please help. Here is the question:

Insert operations symbols (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and/or parenthesis so that a true mathematical sentence is formed.
Do not change the order of the numbers. You may put two numbers together to form a two-digit number.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8=90

Thanks in advance, we've been working on this for a long time.

Jen

1 + 2 - 3 + 4 + (5x6) + (7x8) = 90

That gives me 100, what am I doing wrong?

Try that one. I thought it was supposed to be 100 for some reason. The new one works. There will be many answers.

You're too darn tired to think straight. That's what's wrong. Take a break and try again.

Thanks a bunch for the help. We will go with the answer in post #4. I knew I could count (pun intended) on you guys. :)

Depending on what grade this is for, or how picky the teacher is, you might want to remove the brackets since they are not necessary in #4. Order of operations requires you to do the multiplication first anyway.

Its 7th grade. She said it was okay to leave in the brackets. Thanks again.
