Wasn't much fun but the DD needed it to feel more comfortable with St. Luke's. I'm a little concerned about the hospital being an hour away.

Don't worry, you'll make it to the hospital!! For my last pregnancy our hospital was 45min. away. My water broke at 2am and we had to drop my daughter off at my moms first!! which was on the way but, a 20 min. delay! I made it with time to spare!

It's very important to feel comfortable with the hospital. I'm glad you were able to do it. So much is unknown about childbirth, since you can't predict what kind of labor and delivery you'll have, so it's very reassuring to at least know what the hospital is like.

Try not to worry about the distance of the hospital. For a first baby, there's practically no chance that you won't make it. The worst part will be enduring contractions in the car. Put some old beach towels and a shower curtain in the car now so that you'll have it when the time comes. If her water breaks on the way there, you'll be glad you have them.

I love St. Luke's, what a great hospital! I hope the tour helped ease some of your daughter's anxiety.

I also hope that the tour helped her. I know I felt so much better after doing the hospital tour before I had DS. I still didn't know exactly what to expect as far as labor pains, etc. but at least I could picture where I would be and how things would be handled. That took some of the anxiety off of my mind.

Let's see, first child, nervous mom. First grandchild, nervous grandpa. Typically long labor. 1 hour away. I'm pretty sure you'll be alright. :teeth: You might need earplugs though for the ride up there. ;)

For my first delivery (ironically, 14 years ago tomorrow...to my DS named KIRK! :p )we lived in Jersey at the time...hospital was in PA (health insurance reasons). Over an hour away. We had PLENTY of time. I suspected I was in labor so we headed to the drs. office (it was 6 weeks before my due date). The doctor confirmed labor had started and to head to the hospital when the pains were every 5 minutes. We left the doctors, went out to breakfast (not my idea!! :earseek: ) did some shopping....baby didn't arrive til 6:47 pm!!:teeth:
