matching window blinds...is this necessary?

We are finally upgrading some of our window treatments, especially the ones that came with the house when we bought it 8 years ago. My priorities are our master bedroom and the living room/computer room.
Unfortunately (or at least I think so) those rooms are on the front of the house, and DH has some notion that all the window treatments on the front of the house should match. This entails also putting a blind in the dining room, and in the upstairs "kids" bathroom and in DD#2's room.
Problem? I wanted some decent wood or at least faux wood blinds in the LR and Master. That would be OK in the dining room too, but it makes no sense to have wood in the bathroom (DD#1 takes long showers) and it seems a waste of $ in DD#2's room. Plus while my room is a nice light greenish color, DD's room is yellow, and her curtains actually match her bedspread, although they are about 5 or 6 years old now. We have vinyl blinds in the bathroom now.
Is this really an important thing, to have the treatments match in the front of the house? I never heard of such a thing. Growing up my sister and I both had rooms in front of the house and our curtains never matched. This doubles the number of blinds I thought we needed, but I really wanted to get some nice ones.

None of my window treatments match in the front of the house, if you mean the inside curtains. I have two floral curtains, one in each bedroom, but they aren't the same. You really can't see them from the outside, anyway. I DO have wooden blinds on each window - bedrooms, living room, and dining room. I keep them down for the most part, but I keep my BR ones closed all the time and the LR and DR ones open.

I am one of those people who has all the front windows with similar window treatments. If you drive around and look at homes that do, you will see that there is a balance to the look of the home when everything "appears" similar from the outside.

Now of course, from the street, people are not going to know if a blind is in wood, faux wood or vinyl as long as all of the widths of the blinds are the same.

I do agree with your husband, it does, in my opinion, simply look nicer.

Good Luck

There are five windows int eh front of my house. Three are large windows, two are in the garage and set pretty far away from the other three.

For the garage it was cheapie plastic blinds from Wal-Mart or Home Depot or someplace.

For the other three, they are all the same style--although the set in the bedroom are a slightly different shade, but you can't tell from outside.

lmcm218 who used to DIS but hasn't been on for a long time was required by her HOA to have matching blinds on every window in the house!
