We already have the highest gas tax in the country. Now, our fearless governor has proposed a $.27 to $.50 per gallon increase.

Excellent idea - We're in a recession. Money is tight all around. Let's raise taxes!!!!!:thumbsup2

It's higher than CT? It's been over 10 years but I remember people in CT who lived close to MA crossing the border for cheaper gas. I guess it has changed.

Maybe I misunderstoof the news this morning. Perhaps this would make us the highest.:confused3

Or maybe we had "one of", and this will put us at the top.

I believe the news reported we would be the highest taxed state in regards to gas if this passes. I think Devall is an idiot, I never liked him. What about the taxes he was talking about last week or the week before on juices, candy bars, etc. that he's thinking about imposing on us? He's tax happy!

I'm not sure, which is why I was asking. Gas was high in both places, especially when compared to GA. I just remember friends doing that. I also hear about residents in MA near the border with NH going to NH to do shopping because of the more favorable tax climate. I always liked New England for that reason. You were so close to many other states.

Here's hoping the proposal meets with resistance. It's not a good idea to be raising a tax like that. It sounds like a plan to push people off the roads or into hybrids and public transportation (which was another of my favorite things about NE).

I believe one of the reasons for this new tax was to help bail out the T (our public transportation) b/c they're in debt up to their eyeballs.

MA is one of those states that could be swallowed up in an earthquake and the US would be better off... ;)

LOL, i live in this toilet known as massachusetts and i coulndt agree with you more BAMA. I try not to let anyone know im from Mass when im on vacation in Disney.

It is rather embarassing being from Massachusetts. We have the dumbest people running our state.

They REFUSE to put in casinos, which would generate millions of dollars in revenue for the state and create hundreds, if not, thousands of jobs. They don't want people from the state to lose money gambling. Yeah, as if those people won't drive 45 minutes to the 2 huge casinos in Connecticut.

Here is the funny thing. This tax WILL be passed, and the tolls will stay on the Pike and there will mostly like be more tolls, and yes a host of new taxes are on the way, BUT, the idiot governor we have would get re-elected tomorrow if there was an election. Why do mass voters continue to go to the polls with their head in the sand and not look at reality? Why does kennedy, kerry and specifically barney frank, the lead architech of this recession, get re-elected time after time???? Our governor wants to put a chip in all state inspection stickers to track our mileage......because he is a liberal democrat, i doubt we will see any protest from the ACLU about this one...very funny indeed.

Are you serious? I haven't heard this. That is insane!!!!!!!!!!!! And to add to the list of those who keep getting re-elected, Menino. How does that happen???

Well, the T wouldn't be in so much debt if they changed some of their policies! I wish my job gave me some of the perks those employees get! :rolleyes1 And as for raising the tax that much ... he's crazy! Knew it from the start ...

RIGHT ON Frisco......not sure why they would, but rumor has it that the Lottery has a big hand in keeping the casinos out of MA. go figure!!

Someone on the train this morning was talking about that chip thing. Talk about big brother watching your every move! How is it supposed to know you are not in MA? Like, the snowbirds got to FLA every winter. Is it going to track their mileage everywhere? If that passes I'm moving ....

I don't get what the purpose of putting that chip in would serve. What does the state care how many miles anyone drives?

The main reason for the chip ( i hear) is so they can track you if you go out of state to buy gas. They want you to end up paying a gas tax one way or another. Sounds a little silly, but i wouldnt put it past people like that.

I am disgusted by the proposed gas tax increase. Certainly not surprised though. The second he took office he stopped the proposed elimination of tolls West of Route 128 that Romney started.

I didn't vote for any of them. I'm a Republican.

I'm seriously tempted to move South to a warmer, less taxed state. :thumbsup2

This is exactly what happens in a one-party state. There's a Democratic governor and a Democratic legislature. There is no debate, and no recourse for citizens who disagree. Next time, vote for the other guy. :thumbsup2

I think the chip is so that they can (supposedly) credit you for gasoline tax based on mileage driven. The reasoning being that residents would get a credit at the end of the year for all gas purchased (in terms of miles driven) while out of state people would be stuck.

I would go for a 10 cent hike and every single toll taken down. But not a penny more unless the tolls come down completely FIRST.
