Will the construction of the new train from the airport enable onsite guests to get offsite more easily?

I doubt it. The train, if I'm not mistaken, is part of the statewide high speed rail project. Disney just happened to convince the right authority to put a stop at WDW, but by it's very nature there aren't suppose to be very many stops on the route. It is suppose to go on to Tampa, etc. If there are going to be multiple stops between MCO and WDW then the people of Florida are not getting what they haven't the money to pay for.......

Not at all. The stops will be Tampa, Haines City, Disney's Wide World of Sporrts (area) and Orlando airport.

Why not the Universal or SeaWorld areas ? Disney donated land and plenty of cash to fund the study. The others just moaned of unfair competition and offered NO land for a station.

It isn't that Disney donated the land. Disney just threatned the state that if they aren't the only stop in Orlando they wouldn't allow the train to stop at all at the park. They also went on to say that they would offer extremly low cost if not free shuttle service to and from the airport.

True, Orlando wanted a stop at it's convention center, but Disney worked it's strongarm....eerrrr, I mean "magic" to NOT have the train stop there, but continue on to WDW. As a resident of Florida, I guess you have heard that this thing is going to cost us taxpayers a pretty penny. I just hope Gov. Bush is able to get it back on the ballot now that more people are aware of the cost to the taxpayer, which will NOT be borne by that billionaire as the voters were originally led to believe!  His donation to the project was to spend a lot of $$ to convince Florida residents that it would be paid for by sources other then taxes, Yea, right!

How much would the taxpayers pay if the train went to the convention center and then to some location near but not on Disney land, and then on to Tampa?

The Kissimmee stop (either on or off Disney property) would want to have a huge park and ride lot, too. I am sure Disney is donating land for that.

I would guess that a train of this kind could have one but no more than one stop between MCO and WDW.

You would think that the planners of this project would make it a #1 priority to lure more convention business into town by creating a stop at the Convention Center.

Just how fast is this train supposed to be? Even if it is super-fast, are you not diminishing lots of its value by eliminating the stop at the city's major business gathering place?

I have an idea why the city went with Disney's "suggestion", ;) but I'm just curious as to what Disney's argument was to have them bypass the CC.

It makes no difference where the stops are or how many there are. The taxpayers are going to pay for building the whole thing. Disneys "expense" of "donating" the land for a station will basically not cost Disney a penny.

High speed reail should be only for high traffic destinations like the airport and Tampa. Local rail projects (light rail) should go to places like I-Drive and the convention center. Can you see a 100+ mph train going up I-Drive?:smooth:
