Does anyone have the recipe for mashed rutabega that they serve at Akershus in Epcot?

My mom used to always have rutabega at Thanksgiving and I hated it. I know she mashed it with sugar and butter but it was always bitter to me. I really liked it at Akershus and would like to find a recipe that I could use.

I tried emailing Disney, but never got a response.

Anyone??

Thanks Princesstimes2. I just sent him an email. I hope I get a response.:)

Mashed Rutaba - served at Restaurant Akershus, Norway Pavilion, Epcot

Rutabaga 1/2 lb
Carrots 1/4 lb
Potatoes 1/4 lb
Half and Half 1 1/2 cup

Nutmeg to taste

Method of Preparation

Place rutabaga, carrots and potatoes in a pan. Add water and boil until soft; pour off water. Bring half and half to a boil, add butter. Mix the vegetables in the chopper; slowly add the hot mixture of cream and butter until the rutabaga reaches the right thickness. Season to taste.

I've never had a rutagaba. Isn't it related to the turnip? Is the flavor similar?

I like fried turnips and onions. I might have to try this, but my family would hate it I'm sure.

I think it is related to the turnip. They have them at the Grocery store right next to the turnips. I think the flavor is about the same. They have about the same texture. The only time that I have had them, my husband's aunt loads them up with bacon fat. I don't like the taste of bacon fat so I tolerate her rhutabagas. I would be surprised if your family would even be able to tell they were in there, unless they saw you put it in. :)

When my Mom would make rutabaga she just mashed it with butter and sugar. It tasted very bitter to me even with the sugar. This recipe doesn't taste bitter at all and it will be a way for me to carry on her tradition and actually like the rutabaga. Since Mom has been gone whenever my sister and I get together at Thanksgiving we had to make it just for the sake of making it. I can't wait for my sister to taste this recipe.

Oh boy do I LOVE Turnip or Rutabaga potatoes!!! :)
My Grandmother made them and called them yellow potatoes! I make them now I just boil a rutabaga till REALLY soft!!!!!! Then I add just a couple white boiled potatoes tehn butter, milk and salt!!! YUM!!!!!
I will have to try the recipee you posted!!! :)

So I just made this from almost 22 years ago. How much butter would you guess to put in since they forgot it in the ingredients?
