I just wanted to give everyone a little PSA. We haven't had the RV south of NJ in awhile so we weren't prepared for the dang toll on I-95. :scared1:

On the northbound side, just after the Maryland House rest stop is the toll booth. It's only on one side of the highway so maybe that's why they figure they can charge so much. We had our RV (2 axles) and the tow (another 2 axles). Came to a whopping $23!!!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
I only had a $20 out so I had to run into the back and grab my wallet! Then I realized I had exactly $23 ONLY and there was another toll in Delaware to pay. Thank goodness there was an ATM at the next rest stop in Maryland.

So for all my fellow campers, make sure you hit the ATM prior to heading north through Maryland. :scared:

You need to learn the way around those tolls It's only $2.50 In our Mh on US 50 crossing the bay. We have EZ pass too.

The 17 mile bay bridge tunnel on US 13 is only $28.00 for the MH and toad, and is a much nicer ride south.

Unfortunately the tolls in the East has caused us to not consider traveling that way, after getting hammered on the PA turnpike 3 yrs ago for over $20 to go from the Ohio border to Carlisle on a beat up antique road, we havent considered a trip in that direction. I did notice however that the huge state of the art building in Harrison housed the turnpike comm. offices.

On our trip in June I did make the mistake of taking I80 West from I69 through Indiana. That was another $19.50 for the privledge of driving on a beat up, pothole ridden relic.

:thumbsup2:confused3:thumbsup2:confused3

Since we moved out of the Philly area to S Central PA we now beat the tolls you mentioned on I95.

But, life can be a game of numbers.

I95 caught up to us in March. We stayed 2 days in Hobe Sound, north of Miami, before jumping on I95 and RT 1 to head for the Keys. I am not quite sure but I believe we hit 5 or 6 toll booths every 4/5 miles for roughly $40 in tolls.

Lucked out, coming out of the Keys, we went up the W coast of FL we beat the 95 tolls, but hit the FL TPK and their tolls, heading over to DIS.

Ya just can't win. They have you boxed in. All my life I have been trying to figure out who THEY are.

there is a toll in MD that makes me laugh. On 301 south, as you are exiting, yes EXITING the state, you have a toll booth before THAT bridge (a totally different subject). It's $3 for cars, not sure about with towed vehicle. If you can't pay, you have to stay in MD.

:scared1::scared1:

Coming up from VA northbound we went over the 301 Bridge. I saw that toll booth and could not quite figure out the reasoning.

Another thing, I would not like to break down on that bridge, either towing or not towing.

That has to be the scariest bridge ever. After watching some "repairs" even hubby never wants to be on it again. And he's been over it 'hundreds' of times!

DH and I drove over the Annapolis (301) bridge last year going from Delaware to our sons in Va. DH hates that bridge, and refuses to drive over it if it is windy. His palms were so sweaty by the time we got to the other side. A few days before we had to go over the bridge a friend told us a purdue chicken truck went over the side, long way down to think about dying.:scared1::littleangel:

Holy crud! That's all I think about when going over it. I did it once at 3am in a tropical storm & DD did it in December about 5am in snow storm. Now I can't stand the thought of it anymore. Wonder why they don't build a better/wider/safer bridge? Heaven knows MD has collected enough tolls to pay for one.

If you think the 301 bridge is scarry from on top of it you should see the underside .

That west bound span has been under pepairs from at least 1999. I just love the 2" X 4" guard rails and no shoudler.

What really concerned me about that bridge was that I would go off the side and have about 30 seconds, that would feel like an hour, to scream like a little girl. :scared1:
Luck would have it that someone would be there to take a picture of me screaming like a little girl and post it on this board.

how'd you see the underside???

while fishing out of our boat under the bridges. The fishing is good there in the spring and fall.

Somethings in life---Boy I lucked out. I will never do that again, but you do it again.

That bridge is a certainty. If I have to drive 100 miles around "I will never drive over that bridge again, with or without towing my 5th wheel". Period, end of sentence. etc. etc. etc.

Jeff---You will never have to worry about my 5r or truck landing in your boat, while you are under that bridge fishin' away.

Somebody on this thread said 'sweaty palms'. I believe my steering wheel is now oval, due to my white knuckle experience, at 2 AM going over that route 301 insanity (aka bridge).

I know what you mean. I hate that bridge too. I'll Drive down and cross the Bay bridge tunnel instead of crossing that bridge. From the passenger side of the Mh it looks like you are over the edge. I think they should just make it 2 lanes with a shoulder instead of the 3 with no shoulder that it is now. The good news is that they are taking the steel grates out of the right hand lane now.

We were fishing under the bridge a few years back when we hear a loud splash. This goofy teenage girl jumps off the bridge, misses all of the boats fishing around the bridge lives to tell about it. not even a scratch on her. She said She was stuck in traffic and just felt like jumping. When the police showed up lets say they were not very happy with her.
