Is the New Amsterdam Theatre right in the theatre district? Does anyone know how we can get discount tickets? I checked Mousesavers but it said that their promotion ends in April and we are going mid May. If we stay in one of the hotels in Times Square can we walk? I dont' remember I only went to NY once for a day years ago. I think that we can though.

wow. I JUST found and emailed the following info to my DD who is wanting to see Mary Poppins next week. I googled "half price broadway ticket booth" and there was a lot of info to look at.....

Half Price Ticket Stand For Discount Broadway TicketsThe discount ticket booth offers same-day tickets to Broadway, Off-Broadway, and other arts events at up to 50% off their original prices. The line is long, but don't be discouraged because it moves quickly and that gives you time to decide which show you want tickets for. You'll find a board up at the front that lists what shows are available that day. Discount tickets that are available at the booth are generally for Broadway shows on the wane, which are getting much lower audiences than in their heyday, but are still great theatre. Just don't expect the most popular shows to be available -- because if they can fill the seats at full price, there is no reason why they would sell them for half the value. However, you will sometimes find tickets for more popular shows available at a 25% or 35% discount.

Times Square Booth
The main discount ticket booth is located in Duffy Square, which is in the heart of Times Square, at Broadway and 47th Street. On Mondays through Saturdays you can purchase same-day tickets for evening shows between 3PM and 8PM, and on Wednesdays and Saturdays you can buy matinee tickets between 10AM and 2PM. On Sundays, the booth sells matinee tickets from 11AM to 3PM, and tickets for evening shows from 3PM until closing.

PLEASE NOTE! As of May 2, 2006, Duffy Square is being renovated, so the booth has been temporarily relocated a block away, tucked into a spot by the Marriott Marquis Hotel. You will find it on 46th Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenue (but closer to Broadway). You may also see some people in front of the hotel wearing "tkts Staff" T-shirts who can help direct you to the booth if you're having trouble finding it. The same hours listed above apply at the temporary location.

South Street Seaport
There is an additional discount ticket booth downtown at the South Street Seaport. It is located at the corner of Front and John Street (at the rear of the Resnick/Prudential Building at 199 Water Street). The booth is open Mondays through Fridays from 11AM to 6PM, Saturdays from 11AM to 7PM, and Sundays from 11AM to 4PM. Please note that at this location tickets for Wednesday matinees are sold only on Tuesdays, and Saturday matinee tickets can only be purchased on Friday. Sunday matinee tickets are sold on Saturdays from 11AM to 4PM.

Tips
Here are a few things to keep in mind ...

We suggest getting there as soon as the booth opens if you're looking for tickets to one of the more popular shows.
Make sure you stop at an ATM first, because only cash or traveler's checks are accepted.
There is a $3 per ticket surcharge.
As time goes on through the day, tickets are still available. So, at 7 or 7:30PM, you will be able to receive tickets with little or no wait in line. In fact, additional tickets often go on sale immediately before the start of a performance. However, you do run the risk of having a very limited choice at that point.
Getting tickets at the last minute from the Times Square booth is usually not a problem because you can go straight from the stand to most Broadway theaters in a 5-minute walk.
However, be aware that some shows -- particularly Off-Broadway shows and some music/dance events -- can be in more far-flung Manhattan locations, so ask where the venue is before you buy.
If you plan to get tickets for a play (rather than a musical), Window 6 at the Times Square booth is specified as "Plays Only," so you'll want to get in line there to move through faster.
The line you'll be waiting in is out in the open air, so dress accordingly.

If you have Disney Visa, there are some pretty good seats available for $66 and you don't have to deal with Tkts and the lines. I looked today and am tempted to take the kids for memorial day. Ugh, another temptation to spend money.

We saw the show in 7/09 and it was awesome! We stayed at the Marriot Marquis right in Times Square and walked w/o difficulty- including a 5 yo girl.
It is near American Girl Place- which is also fun!

Are you looking for a hotel recommendation? If so, I just stayed 4 nights at the Iroquis on 44th between 5 and 6 Ave. The hotel was OUTSTANDING! I travel to NYC for business and this is by far the best hotel I've stayed in the city. Great walking distance to Broadway. In fact, I was there during the last blizzard. It was awesome to be walking in times square with no traffic and snow falling all around. Very magical!

Oh I see you said the hotel. What did you pay and where did you get a good rate? And what was the rate? I would love to stay there, but that is uber expensive.

I can't answer your question, just wanted to chime in that I also loved the show. It was great and had some wonderful unexpected surprises.

discounts for shows seem to be out about amonth ahead of time. so the may discount will prob be out in April. since we are already at mid march i would wait until april. check broadwaybox and playbill.com.

i live just outside NYC and this is where i look for my discounts. i have only paid full price to see one show with DD and that was Billy Elliott the first year it came out we saw iton CHristmas day.

May and june is when there are fewer discounts as that is when tourist season starts again.

Get onto Disney on Broadway's list. I'm always getting mailers for the tickets being about half price. To be honest, I've never seen Mary Poppins at the TKTS book. If you have your heart set on the show, it's not worth the risk.

And yes the Theater is in Time's Square. It's actually next door to the Times Square Subway stop.

If Mary Poppins is the show that you definitely want to see I wouldn't rely on getting your tickets at the TKTS booth ... it's hit or miss. If there is a show we want to see (like The Addams Family next month and Wicked in the past) we always order our tickets in advance. You can go to the TKTS today website and sign up to get emails each day as to what tickets are available that day only (sometimes they have the next days matinees). Mary Poppins is on there quite a bit (in fact it's on there for todays show). The discount is 30% off. It use to be that they were 1/2 price but these days it varies by show.

I received an email for the code DISNEY for buy one get one free tickets a few months ago. Not sure if it is still valid but worth a try! I bought mine from the ticketmaster.com website and it worked fine.

I'm not sure if they still do this, but I went in August 2007 with one of my friends and about 90 minutes before the show we went to the box office and asked if they had any of the $30 tickets and got box seats - for $30. I'm not sure if the boxes are still $30 (I think the rear balcony was, too - and I also saw the show from there and it was a great view) it's a great deal - you miss a bit of the action on the very very sides/back of the stage but that's it.

The only thing you have to remember is with Priceline is that you are only guaranteed bedding for 2. On Hotwire you can get bedding for 4.
