Buzzing around the Disney community is news that Marty Sklar recently handed in his letter of resignation. He's leaving The Walt Disney Company after 53 years as a cast member.

He is the only cast member that has attended the opening of all 11 Disney parks. What a milestone!

I had the opportunity to chat with Marty for just a minute or so at Epcot one year. It was completely unplanned. I just happened to see him in the park one day (I recognized his face and his name tag confirmed it). He was an incredibly gracious person. Very down to earth.

I wonder what someone like Marty will do in retirement? With 53 years of Disney service, can he just "give it up"? I know I wouldn't be able to. Will he continue to consult? I surely hope so.

I'm sure we'll know more as his retirement date (July 17th) approaches.

Wow. Impressive resume. Best of luck to him. I'm sure he will be missed.

Personally, I hope he writes a book. I would love to hear all his stories. And I hope he still continues to consult, just retires from the day to day.

I'm sad that he is retiring, but after 53 years you can't say he hasn't earned it.
