Marriotts Grand Vista

I will be arriving in Orlando at 12:14pm on January 1st and will be picking up my rental car at 1pm. We are staying at the Marriott Grande Vista - but check in is not until 4pm? Does anyone know if they do EARLY CHECK IN? I would like to check in earlier than 4pm - or does that risk you getting a bad room? I really want to stay in Main Village or West Village LAKESIDE - will asking for early check in mess that up?

How was your trip? Any thing new to report on the resort that you can share with us?popcorn::

I was really hoping for an update on the property has anyone been there recently.

What building should we ask for and when would I submit our request?

We are planning to stay at one of the Marriott timeshares in May - Grand Vista, Cypress Harbor or Horizon - looking for any info to help me decide - will be trading thru Interval.

Are you looking to be close to the action or a quiet section? How close to you want to be to a pool or food/drink options?

All three trade through II and each resort has its own theme and feel. Are you traveling with any children? How many people in your party?

Go take a look at tripadvisor.com - there are lots of pictures and reviews of all three. :)

We are traveling with our girls ages 11 and 12. The other two families also have girls. :grouphug: So near the action pool, bar, and food would be great.:hippie: We actually traded in our 2 bedroom unit for 3 studio units so we could all go together. Sorry, I forgot to mention that earlier. :rolleyes1 Hopefully, they have a building that is newer and near the action.

Buildings 79 and 84 would be the best, though some have reported that those tend to go to owners first. Your other good options would be 78 or 85 on the west side of the resort or 81, 82, or 83 near the main pool complex. Here is a link to the reort map.

Be sure to ask to have the three studios placed close together. They won't be able to put them all together as a 1BR and a studio makes up a 2BR unit. There will be at least one room between each of yours. Though I would be surprised that they will be able to place them in the same building let alone the same floor of a building.

When should I make the request and to whom? Interval or Marriott Grand Vista?

Thank you everyone, this is a great thread, I really appreciate this!

I wanted to ask, does anyone know if their 3bedroom villas are large?

We are a family of 4, Me, DH, DD (16) and DS(5) are going to be staying at th Grande Vista in a 3 bedroom villa and I was just wondering if it is indeed large enough for us to spread out.

We would love to have a family dinner at Nick's grill. Are the dinner prices reasonable?

I read (on tripadvisor.com) there was an onsite Pizza Hut. Is this a Pizza Hut restaurant? Do they deliver to the rooms?

Is the Arcade game worth it?

Thank you in advance!

Traveling party is me, DD and her two children (DD 10 and DS 8) both kids love pools and water slides - no fear the bigger the better. We usually stay onsite at our DVC - this will be the first stay offsite - since we were just there in Nov 2008 for 18 days we plan to do less Disney, more Universal and more resort time. My first thought was Horizon because of the pirate theme but now am thinking of one of the others because of onsite places to eat.

Thanks for all your help!

Call the resort 10 days prior to you checkin.

A family of four would have plenty of room in a 2BR a 3BR will be huge with plenty of room. You will have a couple beds left empty.

Nick's Grill is good with reasonable prices. I would average say entres average $15-$25.

They do have a Pizza Hut, though when we were there in January it was closed du to construction. It should be opened back up by May at the latest. They do deliver after 4:00 pm. If the Pizza Hut is still closed you can call another offsite pizza place to have it delivered.

No experience with the arcade.

I called the Grand vista and explained my situation with the 3 units. Chad said he would make a note of it on our request. I will also call back 10 days prior as suggested. :thumbsup2

Since so many of you have been to this resort, where would you recommend we dine for Easter bunch or dinner?

they 3 bedroom villa are BIG. so you will definitely have room.

would go with Denny's - it is just down the road. you don't even need a car - well on second though if you end up in some of the further away villa you might

It is difficult to tell from the map how big the resort is. How long does it take to walk to the main pool and restaurants from the not-so-popular buildings? (We aren't members, so I'm guessing we will not end up in the most preferred locations.) How long does it take to walk to the front gate from the furthest buildings? Or any buildings, for that matter.
Thanks!!

The main pool is pretty central to everything. Probably no more than a five minute walk from anywhere. The Copa Loca Bar and Grill could be a 15 minute leisurly walk as would Nick's Grill just outside the main gate house (from the furthest building). Nick's Grill may be offerning an Easter brunch, though I am not sure. I would think there would be plenty of places around serving this, perhaps even at a golf course clubhouse near by. You may want to call around.

Denny's is quite a ways down the road. Also I don't believe there are sidewalks on this end of I-Drive. I would suggest driving to Denny's. The villa you are in would have no bearing on how far the walk is to Denny's.

I am actually looking for a resturant that is not a "chain". Some place with character. We love all types of food. My girl are very adventurous. Even a nice buffet where they could pick what they want would not be out of the plan.

Thanks! The map makes everything look farther away from the main pool, etc. A 5-15 min. walk is no big deal. :)

I called the resort and they sent me three info packages

fabfive, can you tell me if the resort sent it to you or the vacationclub?

I called the resort directly asking if they could mail me an info package. They transferred me to the vacationclub line and told me to "Google" Grand Vista" :confused3 and "there's a wealth of information online" I just said thank you and hung up.

Am I asking the wrong thing? LOL! I know I could search online but I was looking for a brochure.

Thanks

When I called it was before Christmas and explained to them that we wanted something to wrap up for the children to open. I spoke to the resort directly.

Also, a couple of days ago, I called to ask about an activitiy schedule. They sent me one that they currently have but do not have anything scheduled yet for our vacation time. They actually e-mailed it to me in work format. I thought that was nice as well.

So far, we have not even been there and have had GREAT customer service.
