Does anyone know anything about it?

We are considering a trip to Orlando May 5th to 9, and then over to Vero Beach until the 12th this year. We need a place to stay in Orlando, because we don't have enough points we were looking into WDW deals. I can't seem to find any yet and since we have a car was considering actually staying off prop for the right price! (Gasp I know, we never have before!) :teeth:

So I got a promotion in the mail for Marriot Vaction Club 8403 South Park Circle for 4 nights 5 days (just what we need) for 199 and $100 of park tickets. (good only for 2 adults and up to 2 kids, just what we have.) Since saving money is a deal breaker for taking the trip (we just got back last month from SSR, and our AP exprie before May.) I was thinking about calling and consideirng this deal. Of course we have to stay for a 90 min presentation on the vacation club. We have no interest in all at joining another vacaiton club. I figure we won't be tempted because we already have DVC, but it might be interesting to find out how other places work. DH doesn't wan to do it.

What do you wise ones think? Anyone know anything about it, how nice the place is or where it is located? Anyone done this before, it is worth it? Or should I just keep looking?

Thanks oh wise Dis DVC members :worship: :worship: :smooth:

I did their presentation for a steak dinner! LOL. My husband and I did, and I do think it is a good program but not flexible like DVC. The presentation was not very high pressure but they were disappointed that we didn't buy in.

We went on the Marriott deal to myrtle beach ocean watch villas last year at easter. We figured we would go on an cheap ocean vacation. Well we did the 90 minute presentation and bought right then. The cheap vacation ended up costing us $18,100. It is a beautiful resort and we bought pre construction. We own points at both the bw and bcv, but our favorite dvc resort is hh. We can drive to sc and need no park tickets. So instead of using our points to go to hh every summer we will now be going to myrtle beach. Most likely we will sell some of our disney points someday or maybe just rent them out.Being able to drive instead of fly and no park tickets is a huge savings. So be careful about those cheap vacations !!!!

I called and they do have avilablity for our dates. The total would would 199 (no extra tax) for the 4 nights and we do get $100 of park tickets (no minimun and any park). The room would be a studio room (with a king size bed and sleeper sofa.)

I looked up the resort on line. It looks very nice, rather alot like SSR.

As nice as the time share is there is no way we could get it now. DVC is all we can do, (all we want to) and with extra expences with house contruction it is out of the picture. We would be going for the deal and experince. I feel more confident going into the situation because we know about DVC and how it works so we are more prepared. DH just doesn't want presure on our vacation.

Good to know it sounds like a nice place.

Does anyone know where the Orlando one is? I think I saw one last trip near the Puplix and outlet mall. That isn't too bad.

I am leaning towards doing this, DH I feel will not be so sure. (but saving money is a good thing.) Staying off property will be a new thing for us.

Here is link to the web site if anyone is intersted.

The Marriott Grand Vista is a beautiful resort. It happens to be around the corner from where our office is located on Central Florida Parkway. Feel free to drop in and say Hi!

Have fun,
Tom :sunny:

Go for it, Marriott is a reputable company and there product is comparable to DVC. Some things about Marriott properties I like better. We stay at Marriott Grande Vista on cash for weekend nights and then move to WDW DVC for the Sun. - Thurs. They have never even asked me to take the tour there. I've heard Marriott is low pressure like DVC but you could get a pushy sales guy. I'd book it for that price. Have a great trip.

Marriott are wonderful!!!
go try this site
www.vacationclub.com

several DVC member are also marriott.

there are ton more marriotts than DVC resorts - so you can have more of a choice - but all exchanges are thru II (not inhouse) and you pay for it....

We have traded into Marriott Grande Vista thru II (using another timeshare we own, not DVC) and it's a lovely resort. There are also non-smoking buildings there which I thought was great. We have also stayed at Marriott Cypress Harbour and love it, too. Staying offsite, I don't think you can go wrong with Marriott. I have never sat through one of their presentations but I don't think I would worry about it. Have fun on your trip!

I stayed at The Marriott Grand Vista last year and it is pretty nice, but not the same magic as staying onsite at DVC.

You may want to see if Hilton Grand Villas on INternational Drive has any deals as this is a newer timeshare resort and is closer to Disney.

You may also want to consider Disney Pop as a budget on-site property.

We have considerd that, but even then the price was't that good a deal. Last year we got PORS for 77 a night and that is how I managed to convice DH to take the trip (that and we had AP so we did't need to pay for parks.)

I was hoping for a good code this year. Maybe if I wait we will get one, maybe we won't. A bit of a gamble.

THis year our AP will expire. That means paying for parking if we are off prop, but I am thinking about bringing old ones, maybe the ticket guy won't look too close.

Marriott is a top name in the timeshare business. We own at Marriott's Cypress Harbour -- a resort very much like OKW, although no Olivias. It is all dedicated two bedroom villas. Very nice. CH costs about half the price of buying points for one bedroom at OKW and about the same in maintenance fees. We bought to add an extra week in Orlando. We use our other Marriotts for non-Disney vacations.

The newest Marriott Orlando resort is Grande Vista. There are several other MVCI resorts attached to the Marriott World Center and then there is a Horizon resort as well.

I took a 90 minute Marriott presentation as part of the deal at one of their resorts (very nice too) in Spain. Before I went, I asked on the tug site, whether there would be a lot of pressure to buy.

Well, it certainly wasn't without pressure, but not heavy, more a build up to a pitch and an offer 'only if you buy today' - Disney don't do that.

The best piece of advice I was given, was to let them know when you arrive that you have an another appointment in 90 minutes and therefore you will be leaving on time.

Enjoy the promotion and the visit. :thumbsup2

I took the tour at Christmas--I already own at Cypress Harbour--and it's not high-pressure at all. Just remember DO NOT BUY! :teeth: You can get a resale at a significantly cheaper price. We got $125 in Disney dollars, and my DD got $50, so we felt we did well. By the way, the Hilton by the outlet mall may be newer(barely), but they do NOT have washers/dryers in the villas, a significant no-no, in my book. It's also smushed together, not roomy at all. Marriott definitely has a roomy feel, and they have thousands more acres to build more resorts, if they wanted to. Just make sure that Marriott is putting you up AT THE RESORT. Sometimes they try to put you up at the ugly pink hotel nearby(Buena Vista Suites?). My DD got tripped up on that one, and she said the hotel was filthy. She mentions it EVERY time we go to the outlet mall, so it really made an impression :crazy2:

Hi DisneyPHD....Remember me? We met some time ago on the boards because we live (not far) from you! In fact, I think we talked last year at this time! I'm Lily and Casey's mom.

As a matter of fact, when we went last year, we extended our vacation because we had received an invitation to listen to a presentation at the Marriott Grande Vista. We got the same deal and since we already had tickets to Disney, we received tickets from them to do Universal as well. The vacation turned out wonderful! We listened to the presentation (they have a staffed playroom right down the hall from where you listen to the presentation which was great for our children.) We let them know that we owned at Disney and I was also so impressed with Marriott that I wanted to buy that too. DH of course, reined me in and we didn't bite. But I was still very impressed with their properties....I've always loved Marriott properties. I came home and asked some questions on TUG and we've stuck with just our DVC property.

They did try to persuade us just bit during the presentation but they haven't bothered us since so I consider it pretty low pressure. In fact the presenter did mention that they wouldn't try to persuade anyone away from DVC because they know how popular it is...they only try to get you to buy on top of DVC.

And for that price, it's certainly worth it to go ahead and use the deal! Tell your husband that my husband didn't want to do it either, but it worked out very well for us.

Enjoy!

Deb

If it works, go for it. Just be prepared for some pressure. And remember that you can buy GV for a lot less than the retail price, I've seen Platinum weeks for for $5000 for a 2 BR.

That's Marriott's Grande Vista resort you're looking at and it's gorgeous. It's right behind Sea World and I think you'll enjoy it. Even if you have no intention of purchaisng a Marriott Vacation Club interest, I think it's a good idea to see how another company does it. The Marriott system of vacation clubs is immense and you may well at some point find that it makes sense to be in the Marriott Vacation Club as well. So go for it and attend their sales presentation in good faith.

The Marriott timeshares in Orlando that I have seen are beautiful. My extended family LOVES the Grande Vista. I would like to own a Marriott week (along with our DVC). In the future, I want to try out Marriott's Cypress Harbour and their Horizons resort in Orlando.

If you decide to buy, definitely check out resale prices before you decide.
