We ususally stay at Marriott Cypress Harbor, which we like a lot. There is a good rate at Horizons and we are considering staying there. Any opinions?

We stayed there in July of 2004. The pool is very nice. There is a big pirate ship in the middle for the kids to play on. There is a mini-golf course as well. We have stayed here and at Royal Palms by Marriott and preferred Horizons.

My feelings are mixed about Horizons. The biggest drawback was that our unit (building 13) looked onto the freeway. There was constant traffic noise and the "view" wasn't great. I think some other units might be more sheltered.

Also, in my opinion there was not much of a resort feel to the property. The pools were squeezed between the buildings - no real grounds to speak of.

On the positive side ... our unit was nice and newly renovated, though the building we were in was older. The staff were friendly and the kids liked the pools.

I think we will probably choose another, quieter property next time.

What do you consider a good rate, and how do I find it?

If you have young kids - awesome :thumbsup2 Great pirate pool, big slide, mini golf, activities and everything is close together, so little walking.

If you are just adults - avoid. If you have teens they will probably like Cypress Harbor better.

We are staying there next month for 2 nights before we move over to a points stay through our DVC points at Old Key West.

Horizons just opened up some new lock-off buildings. So now you can reserve studios, one bedrooms, or 2 bedrooms (if available). We are paying $135.00 a night for our one bedroom ($150.00 with tax).

They also have the new big slide/pool area opened up besides the Pirate Ship/slides zero entry pool.

My sister and her family, and brother and his family just got back a few weeks ago. They were in one of the new buildings (Building 28 I think) and they said it was great. They stayed first at Disney's Old Key West and then moved over to Horizons. They said the resorts really reminded them a lot of each other with the Key West theme. Their 2 bedroom had a large big screen TV. The only thing it didn't have room wise was a jacuzzi tub in the master bath. But, they said if you're taking a bunch of kids, it can't be beat. Loads of activities and 3 themed pool/water areas. Two with slides and one a water works area (pop jets, etc.).

If you want a more grown-up atmosphere, probably Grande Vista or Cypress Harbour would be better. But if you have kids and you want great slides/themed pools, etc., Horizons is fantastic.

I agree with what has been said. We have stayed at Cypress Harbor twice. It is our favorite resort. we toured horizons. It was nice, the room was smaller then CH, no spa tub. My kids are older and CH has more for them. I can see how the younger family would really like Horizons.

Faye, We are frequent guests at Marriott and use the M11 code-we got Horizons for $200 per night for the 2 bedroom. We usually get Cypress Harbour for $155 per night for the two bedroom, but it has not come up for our end of April time frame. BTW, anyone can register for frequent guest in Marriott and take advantage of this code.

Thanks for the Horizons info. Would the slides interest kids as old as 10 and 12? Why do you think teens would prefer CH?

Thanks for the info! I'll register right away. My kids will be the same ages as your when we travel. I think they would love the waterpark! I hope they have an even better rate for Dec!

Check redweek.com, I think they might have a 2 bdrm for your dates for less than the $200. (Nothing for my dates in Dec yet, though!)
