Was this news already posted anywhere? I found this out at my TS presentation late last month. I wonder if any major changes will be made? I guess Marriott found a little piece of Orlando that they didn't already own.

that is a big surprise.

as many complaints against the NICK hotel as I had heard lately.

It will need a big rehab to make it a Marriott.

Is this for real? I just went to the marriott website and saw no mention of this:confused:

I've never stayed at the Nick. Was thinking about it a couple of times, but I think the Marriott branding will definitely encourage me to do it if not for the implied level of quality but also for the reward points! ;)

I don't believe Marriott bought the hotel in Orlando. What Marriott purchased was the "Right" to create these "monstroties" all over the US. (Can you tell I am not a fan LOL!)

HOPEFULLY, Marriott will understand that a colorful paint job does not allow you to have dirty rooms and arrogant staff......

Here's a link to an article.

The new "nick monstroties" is a joint venture with Nick, Marriott and Miller Global Properties. Miller Global Properties is the owner of the current Nick hotel in Orlando, it is currently a holiday inn franchisee. It isn't clear if the existing Nick hotel will be re-branded as a Marriott or if a brand new hotel will be built.

I believe the Miller Group is going to be responsible for running the hotels, maybe Marriot will impose higher standards then Holiday Inn but I wouldn't count on the new Nick hotels being run any better then the existing hotel.

We wer there in June '07 for 2 nights. We loved it. Everything was clean and the staff were very friendly. We paid $129 per night. It doesn't matter to me who owns the hotel, it's the staff. We would go again regardless of who the owner is.

If every post was like your's they would be in good shape. But I have read too many reviews on here about "mold" etc. Plus several posters have indicated that when you call the front desk in advance they are very rude.

However, I think the "killer" is the arm band charge. WHAT? I could understand if this was an "all inclusive" resort, but the HOLIDAY INN wants to charge me for losing a penny piece of paper??? (:rotfl2: ) My brother cancelled his reservation after hearing this. His kids lose everything, he figured it was an extra $50 a night LOL Plus when he called the front desk told him that at 11:00 AM he turned into a pumpkin. "Sir, after check out you will be asked to LEAVE the property" I told him that based on what I read here that's not true, but it was all it took. He travels a lot, they stayed a the Marriott, the kids lived thru the deprivation! LOL!

There are many many places that charge an outrageous amount to replace a wrist band. One example is our county fair and the "ride all day" wristband. I hope people realize by now that the squeeky wheel gets the grease. The Nick Hotel is usually full and can charge whatever they want, because people will pay.

Yes, and so do all inclusive resorts, BUT in those cases you get more then "access" to a swimming pool.... Sorry, but this is overkill!

And as my post pointed out at least some people won't pay. (As my brother told his son, when you make the money you can stay there LOL!)

One of the reasons for the wrist bands is the number of birthday parties, for non-guests, that are booked. To me that's another reason not to stay there. Really no reason why the hotel couldn't just check room kesy when people enter the pool area. Cut off the wrist bands as guests leave the pool area.
