For those that did the Marriage License by mail from Brevard County - how long did it take from sending the form to getting the license?

Thanks

it was fairly quick for us. Maybe 2 weeks total from when we received the application and sent it back notarized.

Quick question regarding the marriage license. I saw on the Brevard County website that you need marriage counseling in order to receive a marriage license. Is that true? Thanks!

Only for Florida residents. No one else is required to have it. (I think all they do is give FL residents a handbook and make them wait 3 days after applying—they aren't allowed to apply by mail.)

However, if you have a certificate or letter proving you have had marriage counseling, you may be able to get the discounted rate for the license. It worked for us, but not for another DISer I know who tried it. :confused3

I highly recommend it! Brevard Co. has very fast turnaround and were very nice to work with. :thumbsup2

I was actually going to post something similar to this and just wanted to make sure i understand this all correctly. I print the form off their website (non FL resident), mail that in and they then send back the Marriage Certificate form. I then fill it out, we sign with a notary, and send that back with the payment and they will mail our marriage certificate to us? THe turnaround time is a couple of weeks on this and once the Marriage License is created its valid for 2 months? Please let me know if i am missing anything... thanks!~

That's exactly it—just to clarify, they send you a marriage license before the wedding and a marriage certificate after you or your officiant mails in the license you signed on the wedding day. :thumbsup2

Great thanks so much. That's one thing i wouldn't want to make any mistakes with!

Has anyone done this from the UK?
I wasn't sure how long before to send it as the mail can take an age from the States?
Any advice would be fabulous :thumbsup2

I just want to make sure i have the correct link to get the marriage license paper work. can someone post the link?

So just to make sure i have this correct. I print the form. then i fill it out and go get it notarized. After it is notarized then i send it back to them with the money. they then send another document that i have the officiant and us sign and then we mail it back to the clerk.

Here's the link: http://199.241.8.125/index.cfm?FuseAction=Files.View&FileStore_id=6385

I print the form. then i fill it out....

...and send it in to Brevard County. Then they send you an Application to Marry, and you...

go get it notarized. After it is notarized then i send it back to them with the money. they then send [the license to marry] that i have the officiant and us sign, and then we [or the officiant] mail it back to the clerk.

:thumbsup2

Just wanted to provide a little update. I sent my completed "Request for Marriage License Application" this morning. I scanned it and attached it to an e-mail. I got an immediate response back confirming that they received it.

I then got a phone call about 40 minutes later clarifying one thing on the form that was not clear.

The service seems responsive so far :thumbsup2

I received my Marriage Application by Mail form from the clerk of the court to fill in Friday 25th. So that was 3 days from e-mailing the request form back to receiving the application. :thumbsup2

I will be getting it notarized on Monday and returning along with the $93 fee

Brevard County has been SO amazing to work with! Super fast customer service, not staying on hold forever when you call... and if they can't read something they will call you right away to verify it! Not even a day turn around for me from the time I faxed it in to the time they mailed it back to me!

:lovestruc

I also called with a weird question the lawyer who notarized it was concerned about - in Canada all lawyers CAN be notaries but they don't expire unless they are disbarred. The lady I got in touch with was super informative, got me to read the seal to her, and even checked with a supervisor right away to make sure we were good.

Awesome people so far :thumbsup2

Just a couple questions for those of you who are going through this process now or have already done it. I just don’t want to make any mistakes. I am doing it through mail with Brevard County and am not a FL resident.

I am filling out the form just to request the marriage license application. It asks for the Brides Full Legal name both “at this time” and “at birth.” My name at birth is currently the same name I have now, but of course will change once I am married. Therefore is “at this time” my new name after I’m married or just confirming its still the same as my name given at birth?

Also, I am just under 3 months out…. I know the actual license is only good for 2 months so I am in no rush. But I can request the application now and just turn it in when we get closer correct?

Thanks for your help!

I used A Wedding for you inc. They were great! I submitted it 90 days before our wedding. (which was of course extremely early!!!) 60 days before I recieved the application that needed to be notarized. We notarized it and I just emailed her and she said everything was all set. The license was on the way to Rev Tim. The whole process is about 2 weeks.
Hope that helps!

It's confirming the name you have now is your birth name. Your name might have changed if you had been married previously and kept your married last name (for example).

You can go ahead and do the paperwork now and they will send it back to you within the appropriate timeframe. I sent the request for the application six months out and I received the application spot on my 60-day mark. It'll be one less thing you have to worry about now! :thumbsup2

Great thank you! That makes sense. So in my case both names will be the same.
