Marrakesh

On our upcoming trip DSs and I wanted to try Marrakesh and are thinking of dinning there on our arrival day. I haven’t heard anything about this place. Can anyone give me some feedback?

It was just okay. Out of our whole week, it was our least favorite meal but I won't go so far as to say that I hated it.

We had never even intended to dine there, we had an ADR for the Cape May Clambake. But earlier in the week, I had been to the Cape May for breakfast only to find that the buffet area was being "refurbished" and the temporary setup was a real pain. So I cancelled my dinner ADR. I tried to get back into Boma but couldn't. So, I called dining and about the ONLY place I could get into at a decent time was Marrakesh.

We got there for our 6:00 p.m. ADR and no one was hardly there. The whole time we ate there was only about 4 other families in there. It wasn't even crowded when we left.

Anyway, I ordered the brewat appetizer that a lot of people here rave about. I didn't care for it. It wasn't badly prepared but it was just a taste/spice combination that I did not like.

We all ordered various things. The chicken kabobs seemed the best but nothing was outstanding. My DS (11) ordered a cheeseburger of the kids menu. It was undercooked and disgusting.

The servers were nice but just not very good. We had a hard time getting the kids meal fixed.

The belly dancer was entertaining.

I would not repeat this place again, but it wasn't terrible either.

I agree with Christine. It's kind of "...eh". The belly dancer was ok, but my very shy DS15 refused to watch her, as did my husband (am I THAT threatening???). Chicken was dry, so was the lamb, and lacked spice.
I love the look of the place, but the service was rather lax, and the waiters came across as unfriendly. The hostess was pleasant, though.

My DS (11) was absolutely terrified of her and mortified that she might come over and dance near him. But there were other young boys there who got out on the floor with her. Not sure what my son's problem is...

Love the food, but the service is never great. We eat at Marrakesh every trip, it's one of our favorites. We like the beef brewat app., beef and chicken shish kebob (esp. the beef!), lemon chicken, and vegetable couscous. It's a beautiful restaurant, but the tables are a little too close together. The belly dancer and musicians are always fun to watch.

Well, that was quit. Between the time that I first saw this thread, and I could log on, there had already been three responses.

We, my sister and I, seem to be the opposite of most of the other responses, so far. We have eaten there twice. Though, unfortunately, not recently. We ate dinner there the first week they were open, and our most recent meal was two years ago for lunch. And we enjoyed it--tremendously--both times.

If one is an ice tea "snob" like myself, their ice mint tea is the best ice tea in the World.

Another so-so review here. We ate there last Oct. after reading great reviews in the UG. Unlike some other reports here, we had a great server (wish I could remember his name). Also, the dessert sampler was delicious. We ordered it to go because the kids were exhausted and then ate the whole thing while waiting for the to-go coffees we decided to order at the last minute. But the appetizers and entrees we ordered were all bland, rubbery meats, etc. Pretty disappointing, as I had high expectations for the place.

We have a group of 10ppl. None of us have been to Marrakesh.
I have also read alot of good comments about this restaurant.
We all have the Dining Plan and voted to make this one of our nights out.
IS it a hugh mistake. We wanted to try somewhere we havn't eaten at before.
Is the Belly Dancer that embarrasing to husband/sons ???

Marrakesh is a 'must do' for us. The last time we ate there was Dec '05.
Up front I will tell you we go during the 'low' part of the season & our big meal, always TS, is lunch.

We like the chef's special, love the lemon chicken, roast lamb & sultan's platter. I can't say I like the brewat rolls--too dry for me--but the guys wolf them down. We all share & like the Crepes Atlas & Cassablanca & love the fruit salad with mint ice cream dressed with rose water.
In agree w/ the Texaskid, the mint iced tea is super! Try the Moroccan coffee--that'll put hair on your chest!
If anything we wish the food was more spicey, not so 'dumb downed'.

Our servers have always been good & this last time out-excellent. Jacob or Issac, I think his name was. Very cheerful & chatty. Most of the staff I find quiet & reserved, but polite.

Personally, I wonder if Marrakesh is going to be the next target of Princess dining! Each time we've been there it has never been very crowded.

When we've gone I find the belly dancer trying to catch our eyes to see if it is okay to approach the table. DS16 at the time blushed wildly, but he did enjoy it DH knew better! Seriously, it wouldn't bother me, but I think it's sweet he restrains himself!

I've got another so-so response here.

I just ate there this past Sat (4/29). I chose to have a late lunch- there were probably only 5 other parties in the whole place at 3 pm so I didn't need an ADR.

It was fun to see the belly dancer. She invited two of the little girls to come up and dance with her which was cute to watch. I thought the music was a bit loud.

It took a while to get my order taken but once taken, the food came out quickly. I ordered the Sultan Platter which included a Chicken Kabab, Chicken Bastilla, Beef Brewat with a side of vegetable couscous. I thought the Kabab was OK and like the Beef Brewat but did not care for the flavoring of the bastilla.

I've eaten at other Moroccan restaurants and I'm not a big fan of cinnamon spiced meat. I knew this when I made my ADR but I wanted to try it anyway.

So if you are up for trying a different cuisine in an interesting setting- this could be the place for you. However, the spices aren't like the flavorings used in Thai, Mexican or Indian food so it is a different flavor experience.

I have a different view of this restaurant. It is one of our must dos on each trip. We have had lunch here our last 3 visits. We enjoy it very much. My DH and DS always have the Sultans Feast, and I have had the chicken kabobs and the lamb and have enjoyed both.
We find the setting beaufiful, the servers warm and friendly, the belly dancer nice to watch and the food good.

The Good.
Appetizers were pretty good. The Bastilla good.
The Crepe's Atlas (a desert) was great. I could just duck in for that if it wasn't that busy.
Belly dancer was great. She just got the little girls that wanted to go out when I went. They don't have to come if they don't want to. She's not pushy.
The Band was good but the set short.

The Bad.
Bland meat and 3 quality entrees. I suggest the lamb as it has its own flavor.
Kabobs had tomato sauce without any spice on them and were dry.
Kids meal was atrocious. First time I've seen burger and fries picked and otherwise untouched.
Lemon chicken undercooked severely and had to be sent back.

I'd say we probably hit the worst night possible there. It's got to be better than we had. And I see the pictures of the reviews with all the wonderful looking spices in them and on them and think what happened? But we didn't get any of that. Everything was plain.
The night we went they were not only taking walk ups but the woman was out front near the lake at the podium when every other WS restaurant was turning people away.


My suggestion is if you want to try morroccan, go to the counter.

This was my absolute favorite resturant from my last trip (Jan), and it will be the first place I go to for dinner when I got back in Sept. I really enjoyed the food, though the portions are a little bit small. Our server was nice and attentive, and the atmosphere is terrific. I really felt like I was in an Indian Jones movie for some reason. We were on the dinning plan then, and had a terrific meal, which was a surprise, because I hadnt expected to be so pleased. Give it a shot, I think you may be surprised as well.

We enjoyed our dinner at Marrekesh. We ordered the beef brewat rolls..okay a little dry. The Lamb, chicken kabobs and vegetable cous cous was delicious. We also like the salad (name escapes)me. I enjoyed the belly dancer and the band. My DS4 at the time really enjoyed dancing with the bellydancer. I think he has a thing for Jasmine. We're going again in 2 weeks for lunch. By the way, lunch prices are a little cheaper than dinner.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. We have ADR's there at 7:00 pm, do you think thats enough time to eat and watch fireworks, or should I move it a little bit? The other resturant we wore thinking about was the English Pub.

I know this restaurant often gets so-so reviews but it was actually our favorite TS meal last September. We loved the food and the room is just beautiful. There's a chance my DH and I will have a one day trip to WDW next week on our way home from the beach. I've already made an ADR for Marrakesh just in case.

Morocco is not a great place to watch the show. I'd make it earlier so I could get to a better location.
