Marketing attached to Halloween Candy!

As I suspected, some people would be for it and some would be against it. Then the name callers, the popcorn smiley posters and other alleged specialties would try to pick apart the validity of the story.

I know we have received business cards in my daughter's basket before, so we decided to try it. For those who cannot understand the liability factor, I won't bother to explain it to them. For those claiming to be tax experts or holding an MBA, as another person said, unless you post proof, take it for what it worth.

Happy Halloween everyone. I think my friend is a marketing genius (no one has an idea what is on her card) and I wish her all the best. We need more entrepreneurs in this country.

"So we decided to try it." Why not just say it is your business? Then you can be the "marketing genius."

Ooh another one trying to parse words. When you are helping someone get started in their business and spend most of the day as we did it becomes we decided. Not my business but nice try.

Being a business owner I would never do it. I ( not speaking for anyone else ) would not find it appropriate.

A lot of time and money for probably no return. Most will toss the card. Abd the few that keep it will just toss it at a later date.

That's fine if you are skeptical of anonymous internet posters' credentials. I don't need you to believe anything I say. I think my advice is solid whether or not you believe I have a degree. I offered it as sincere advice to help, but at this point it's obvious that you don't want help, only reassurance that you and your friend had a genius idea. Sorry I can't offer that.

By the way, I won't be posting a picture of my MBA degree, my BS in Mechanical Engineering, my minor in Mathematics, or my Mensa membership card. Your skepticism will lose me no sleep tonight.
I had to look up what Mensa even is and for a group of highly intelligent people, I find it suspect why I would have to explain the liability concerns of several ages of children in costumes and masks jumping around on a inflatable in a house darkened for Halloween. Since you have not posted any proof of your credibility, I will take it for what it is.

You don't love her genius idea for marketing, I do and several others she and I have talked to agree.

Happy Halloween and Blessed Samhain!

Your "friend" wants to run a bouncy house business and doesn't have liability insurance? If she does have liability insurance, then there would be no more issue with running the house tonight as a free promotion than it would be for a paid job. Sorry, OP, but I don't think your "friend" has much of a business plan thought out at all.

So if you know it's a "genius" marketing plan, why did you bother to ask what others thought. Seems like you just have your feelings hurt because most people don't share your opinion on the genius part.

I've been following this thread since you started it and while you like to respond to those calling you out, you still haven't address the $2500 your "friend" supposedly spent. You can keep calling it a math error, but without explain how it was a math error, it still doesn't make any sense. Did you really think each candy bar was almost $5 a piece?

As for the original post, I have to agree that this is a very poor marketing plan. And how is one sale going to recoup her money on this? There is no jumpy house worth a $2500 rental. FWIW, I have a business degree with a marketing concentration.

What do you think goes on at children's parties with the jumpers? Many kids parties have them in costumes, masks and stuff.

And are you say the inflatalbe is in the darkened house?

It was a math error because I multiplied $4.27 X 500 cards. When I should have multiplied it by around 84 packages of candy which would be around $355 plus the cost of 500 cards. So maybe $425 and not $2500. A simple mistake.

Still don't understand the "Friend" in quotes. Hey some agree with it and some don't. I wanted to see. As she is marketing to families and kids especially, I think this is a very amazing way to get the word out. And yes All she needs is one sale to pay for her time because one sales turns into repeats and referrals. So yes again a genius marketing effort and I was all for it and happy to help!

Some of us are putting friends in quotes because we really think you are the business owner. You are way to invested in the idea & the company for it to belong to a neighbor, at least in my opinion.

So, we can now agree we're talking under $500 for this? Not once did you give a new dollar amount, even when asked repeatedly. I understand your error, but I wouldn't really call it a simple mistake. That was exaggerating to the hilt. I still think it's a bad idea - like others, if my kids don't toss the card, I will without really looking at it, but a $500 potential mistake is much better than a $2500.

In any case, good luck to you/her.

I'm not sure I have ever seen the word Genius, used so many times in one thread before...

Every time I see that word in this thread I wonder if the business cards attached to the candy bars read "Wile E. Coyote, Genius"

Has anyone else bothered to google the OP's username? It certainly adds one more interesting cog in the wheel that is this thread :confused3 :rotfl:

LOL! Yes, anyone who is affiliated with the creator of a now bankrupt pyramid scheme company is sure to think this whole candy thing is marketing genius. :lmao:

First thing I did. I figured the OP would just get mad if I pointed it out.

And by the way, good thing the OP's friend isn't in my neighborhood. We had 15 trick or treaters.

No different than the "Disney's Frozen Cheeseballs" one of my co-workers.....a former Castmember......is handing out.
