Market Basket supermarkets in MA

The one near me is not nice and I just can't shop there. I'll occasinally drive 354 minutes to the other one but not very often.

The one near me is disgusting! I avoid it at all costs! Occasionally I have to go there to grab something and I always end up wishing I had driven somewhere else out of the way.

I imagine a new one would be worth the savings and probably a lot nicer, but the one close to me is FILTHY. ANd the aisles are too small so it always feels crowded and busy. It is in a dangerous area, and full of undesirables.

I live North of Boston.......I prefer the nice clean Stop N Shop.

I love Market Basket.... HOWEVER..... so does everyone else! LOL! It's always crowded unless you get there very early in the day. You can't beat the prices on most things :) They do take coupons but they don't double them like the competitors around here do (ie. Shaw's and Stop and Shop) because their prices are already much better anyway. :thumbsup2
::yes:: I can always find a parking space at Shaw's and Stop & Shop. Even Shop & Save which has pretty darned good prices. Market Basket? I have three relatively convenient and boy, sometimes parking is TOUGH!

MB is definately great for prices. I'm in the same situation, mine isn't in the best area, so I will only go there during the day and during the week.

Weekends are insane!! I usually spend about 25% less than I would for simliar shopping trip at Hannafords...which I pass to go to MB.

I'm not thrilled with their produce and I've been to a few of them, in the MA/NH area and really haven't been thrilled w/any of them. So I really don't get produce there. I checked a few things today and the only thing I got was bananas. Tomatoes, had mold growing, cucs were squishy.

We have 2 MBs in our city, they are always packed! Aisles are nice and wide, everything you need is there deli, seafood, bakery, hot grill, meals to go they have it all. Prices are good too! Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but sunday afternoons are the worst day for shopping. Everything is always wiped out the produce is totally picked over, and the meats are not always that plentiful.

Market Basket is definitely the supermarket of choice around where I live. I do have Stop and Shop one town over, but only go there once in awhile when they have really good specials. Overall, you just can't beat Market Basket's prices. Their meat and produce are not as good as some other stores, though they did just build a new one in my town about six months ago, and the produce got better with the new store. (not sure why!)

I have to confess, I do have a soft spot for MB....my DH and I met while working there! Now our daughters work there. They are really good to teenage employees.

I love Market Basket prices, and used to have to drive a half hour to get there. We have one closer to home now.

The store I used to go to was a mob scene, and the employees were always stocking shelves when the stores were crowded. One of them (a teenage boy) was pulling a large dolly and walking backwards. He crashed into me, and since he was much bigger than me and walking fast, it was quite a lot of force. I have to say that the manager I spoke with afterwards was extremely nice. I already have back/neck problems and didn't think medical attention would have make any difference in my recovery, so I never went to the doctor afterwards. I got a very nice letter in the mail from their lawyers a few months later following up to make sure I didn't have any medical bills. (I didn't.) I was impressed.

I love shopping at the Market Basket. I moved to southern NH from NY a few years ago and couldn't believe how much lower the prices are at the Market Basket compared to what I was paying for things in NY. Best time to shop is definitely weekday mornings. The Market Basket on weekends is a scary place. The deli lines are way too long and so are the checkout lines. And you'll end up parking way too far away to push a wagon full of groceries.

Hi Jenn, and all you Charlton and Oxford neighbors :wave2: I just got my T&G from the mailbox and found the Market Basket flyer inside! Anyone know if they will take competitors coupons? I was able to use a Big Y $7 off coupon at Stop & Shop yesterday - it might make the extra travel time worth it for me.

Of the 3 weeks worth of flyers, I've only received 1 in the newspaper so far. It was for the 2nd week and came in the Fri T&G of that week. :confused3

I liked the store, but its super annoying not to receive a flyer in the newspaper and to not have a website. Looks like I'll have to drive to the store tomorrow just to get a flyer so I can plan my trip. :sad2:

I'm shocked sometimes at how expensive other stores are. I had to run into a Hannafords in Burlington for half and half. I buy a quart at MB for $2.89. A pint at Hannafords was $2.99. Their quarts were over $5. The aisles at MB seem smaller since MB is always restocking the shelves.

I have the best of two worlds - I shop at MB and I am close enough to shop at Wilson Farm in Lexington for fruits and vegies!!! My closest MB is Reading but my favorite is Danvers.

No. Stay AWAY from the Danvers store! You 'interlopers' take up valuable parking spaces and cashier time - not to mention, merchandise - from us locals! :rotfl2:

No it is in Oxford!

I love this store! I've already been 4 times since it opened. The employees are so helpful too. The crowds have been bad but the staff keeps the checkout lines moving. I'm enjoying one of their 6/$1.99 jelly donuts as I type.

I live in Rutland and Mom lives in Worcester, both of our husbands travel for work during the week so one night we are going to take a drive down to the new Market Basket.

My Mom does business with M.B. and has been begging them for one in Worcester for years- lol! I would love to see them open near Holden. We only have a Big Y for Holden, Paxton, Rutland, etc and they really raise the prices at that location since they know the next closest stores are in Worcester. I am sorry, but I am not paying $4.99 for a bottle of Crisco veg oil when I can get it for $2 at Super Walmart in Leicester or Leominster. I actually missed the bonus on my Disney Visa in Aug since all my grocery was at a Super Walmart and that doesn't count as 'grocery'!

Me too!! I've been several times. I come right down Sutton Ave everyday from work so it's literally on my way home. I have to admit all the bakery items look delicious. I'm trying to stay away from them since I do WW. But I'm sure I'll cave one of these days! LOL

We have 3 MB within a half hour of me. One is really nice, one is OK, and one I wouldn't go in with an armed guard :)

Their everyday prices beat the Shaw's and hannaford around here by a mile. Shaw's has better sales with doubling coupons and catalinas. Hannaford has a better variety of stuff.

I've been to the Oxford store about 3 times so far and its clear they need a bigger parking lot already. I was wondering if people would be driving from Worcester to shop at the store and it sounds like you will. I've spent 2 decades having to travel over 15 miles round trip for a grocery store. I'm just so excited to have a store very close by now. :goodvibes

My MIL lives in Oxford and couldn't wait for this MB to open! She even wrote the company a few years ago asking them to build one down in that area because she was always having to drive 15mins to go food shopping. She is thrilled that MB finally has one there and its 2 mins from her house.

I love MB and have been shopping there for years. I am lucky to have 3 close to me and all of them are pretty nice. They are busy, unless you go on the right days, but clean and stocked. Plus the pricing is awesome. I ran into Donelan's for like 3 items the other week and spent like $10 when at MB I would have only paid $5. :rolleyes:Yeah won't be doing that again.

I find MB to be cheaper but often dirty (mostly from crowds and constant restocking, lots of spills) Their meat is good but their produce can be really bad and is inconsistent. I am still battling moths I got from some grain product I bought at a MB. Their parking lots tend to be smaller and less well laid out then other stores like Stop and Shop in my area. I also seem to encounter ruder people at the 4 MB nearest me. Perhaps this is just because it is SO much more crowded. I will say they have well dressed and for the most part polite employees and I do love that.

I find that if I check out sales I can get good deals other places. I like shopping at Trader Joe's for frozen Veggies, dried fruit, nuts, cereal, jam and some produce most of the time they are cheaper then MB and when they are a bit more I never mind because the quality is SO much better. I find the best savings to be Costco for Meat (and sales at other Grocery Stores) and staples like sugar, flour and such then TJ for my frozen Veggies, some produce and other grocery items. I love Wilson Farm for LOCAL produce, eggs, and milk. I bake my own bread , cookies and such. We try very hard to support Local food and farmers. In the summer I shop at the farmers market a lot. This is one of the reasons it bums me out that MB tends to be so dirty and crowded, it is in fact a local business. I would never shop at Super Walmart (or any Walmart for that matter} because of the Hugely Detrimental Impact they have on Local Economies and really just the economy in general.

All that said I hope your MB is lovely and clean with a big parking lot and yummy produce.
