I have not ridden either in years! My memory is that during a sail on one of these boats, there is a loud steam whistle or some type of blowing steam noise that goes off. I think this was on the Riverboat but am not sure. What are the differences between each ride? Thank you :)

Yes, the Mark Twain Riverboat has the whistle. And it is a steam powered paddler. The S.S. Sailing Ship Columbia is not.

Here are two nice YouTube videos. They both have good information.

Disneyland, Mark Twain Riverboat Full HD Ride fro…:

Sailing Ship Columbia - Disneyland California:

The Mark Twain has the steam whistle you are talking about. The boat has 3 levels from which to view the surroundings. There are also a couple of indoor spaces and chairs along the front of the boat.
Sailing Ship Columbia has one viewing deck, and a below-deck area where you can get an idea of what a ship like that may have looked like during its time. They also shoot off a canon after the ship turns the bend past the Hungry Bear Restaurant.
Both rides use the same underwater guide/track system. They stop running before dusk, as both ships are used during Fantasmic.

Thank you so much Gisele! I enjoyed watching the videos. :)

Thank you also, Fantaluminishes. I asked about the loud noise because I have a health condition where noise like that (and fireworks, which thankfully I have never liked) the booming can trigger a joint flare up.

I appreciate both of your replies :)

For those with sound issues, I highly recommend earplugs while at the parks. The ambient noise can get overwhelming, and there are random loud noises all over the place.

DS and I don't have any diagnosable conditions, but we find it nice to have earplugs available. One morning on the submarines he was nearly in tears because the sound on the ride was turned up SO high.
