Holidays have never been something that i have really done as an adult. As a child we would spend 2 weeks each summer at a caravan park (normally in Cornwall) swimming in the sea that was far too cold and eating crisp (and sand!) sandwiches.
The concept of "GASP" foreign holidays was always completely alien to me, it was not something i really even considered. I can hear the horrified whispers about the crazy lady who hates holidays and has sob seen nothing of the world, now!!!!! It really was just something that i thought other people did
Then i met my husband . The man who has been just about everywhere you can think of. Even the really obscure places! I remember the story he told me of Ice-Skating followed by Ice Cream in Doha, Qatar and thought he was completely bonkers.
On his encouragement we started taking holidays abroad and i can now proudly say i have been abroad twice, once to Tunisia (which we will subtly gloss over, nice pool, lovely heat, a bit too scary for a first timer) and once to my now favourite place in the world, Florida!!! I can honestly say that it was one of the happiest times of my life (complete cliche i know but still!!) We spent two weeks of complete bliss in June of 2006 and i now have the bug. I have informed my husband (although he thinks he hasn't agreed! hee hee ) that we will have to go back every year or will simply have to move to Florida and marry Mickey!
I suppose this is probably the right place to introduce us;
Me: Marie or Alice (in my own little wonderland), Maurice (my little sister thinks this is a hilarous nickname! ) or Puddin' (my husband thinks this is a great new name and started using it this week!) 27. Slightly (ok, a lot) talkative, excitable (like a child) and generally just daft. I love everything about Disney but am a sucker for Winnie the Pooh.
I'm the one in the middle
DH: Steve or "OH GREAT AND WISE GINGER ONE" or Ginge for short. 27. Much quieter than i am but just as silly. Is happy as long as i am happy. Not keen on thrill rides. Laughed like a little child at Lilo and Stich.
I know it's not a disney picture but, i just love this one
A bit of backstory.
The need for good summer holiday has become more apparent in the last couple of years. DH is in the RAF and in 2005 we were posted to Northern Ireland. Usually this probably wouldn't be much of an issue but, this move was to be the first for me after leaving home and leaving home consisted moving into a married quarter about 10 minutes walk from my parents house. I was in pieces at the thought of moving so far away (i'm originally from Oxfordshire) but i got on with it and moved to Aldergrove in April 2005. There were alot of tears and the first few months were hard but now i love it
It was then that i realised just how different life could be once you step outside your normal, comfortable existence. Before the move my life had just pottered around. There was no real excitement. Work was a way to get paid and i was socialising with friends that i had had for years (and still do have) in places i had been going to since i was a child.
I moved and then realised i needed a life!!! I made some great friends, ones i hope i won't lose when we are next posted. I found a great job ( i manage the office of a large recycling company) and started studying for a Business Studies degree at university at night. This meant that my quiet life was now jam packed and that by the summer i was shattered!!!
We decided to take a holiday in 2006 and to be honest, it hadn't occured to me to go to Florida. I wanted a beach, a sunlounger and a rest!!! My husband suggested Florida so i agreed and we went for it. We had a ball and even though we had a crazy two weeks and came home revitatised and ready for anything. We booked almost straight away to go back...............
Next: Hotels, ADR's and "Oh my gosh can i get anymore excited??"
