What time do the concerts and parade usually begin? We will be there next weekend. What time should we stake out a spot?

According to their website, concerts start at 8:30. Parade times vary:

We've not been to a concert, but I imagine the time to stake out a spot vary by artist and day of the week. Hopefully, someone else can help. As far as the parade, we went to one recently on a Saturday night and staked out our spot about 15 minutes prior to the start.

I was there a couple of weeks ago on the Saturday night of the Macklemore concert. It was easy to find a parade spot 10-15 before. I was near the beginning of the parade route, in front of the Horror Makeup Show. After the parade passed me I headed toward the concert area, where signs on the video screens said the area immediately in front of the stage was full. So I got a spot just across from the screen, which was fine, but the bass was so loud I couldn't hear anything he was singing, so I left after 3 songs.

During the following weeknights you could have gotten a spot for the parade 30 seconds before, it was so deserted.

Is the concert viewing area just one big lawn with people jammed shoulder to shoulder? We have never been to Universal before.

Yes...it's standing room only at the concerts. It's not too bad though.
