March No Buy..Rolling Into Spring!

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. My little guy lived up his birthday. We had a big party, three cake celebrations, dinners out, etc. So, we spent a good amount this weekend. But, he had a good time. Also, a car light came on today, so I hope it doesn't cost much or else we might be headed out to car shop. Our Civic is 12.5 years old, so we're not sure how much we want to pump into it. Hoping for a cheap fix! March is starting to feel long...

Glad to hear that you had a good time celebrating your little guys bday!

I completely understand about getting your car fixed....I was trying to put mine off til April, but the lovely light came on, so I had to get it fixed this month, going to pick it up tomorrow to the tune of $900. Both of our cars are 10 years old, but one only has 83,000 miles and the other has 103,000 so I am hoping they will last a few more years. And while one is in the shop the other decided to start having really bad grinding sounds upon breaking......grrrrr....I hope your car is a cheap fix too! GOOD LUCK!:flower3:

Thanks, AMickey! We take it in on Thursday; it's 12.5 years and about 130K miles. Sorry about your big car bill. We keep getting hit with something big almost every month; so far this year, we've had $800 plumbing and $500 other car bills. Oh well; that's why I'm here.

Anyway, good luck with your other car as well. And thanks for the nice words about DS. He did have a lot of fun turning 5!

DH and I have been carpooling this winter. It first started out of necessity when it was too cold and is car wouldn't start. Now we like it and do it in order to save gas and make our (old) cars last longer. However, I think it's mostly saving him gas money. Though we switch out between both cars, when we take mine he drives it much further to his work, making me having to fill it up more often...

I did win a $25 gift card to Starbucks today. :thumbsup2

WAHOO! That is a good thing...and no guilt trip when you stop at Starbucks to indulge!

Well my car getting fixed cannot wait until April.....:guilty:...check engine light came on and needed a major turn up! So far costing $800...it was coding for 3 things, don't know if it is completely fixed yet or not....sometimes I just hate cars.
Next Month: Get car fixed...

:mad:I hear you...keep holding my breath that mine will last until AFTER WDW trip for about 6 months after that...then I am going to dump the gas guzzler!

I haven't read all the posts, this board moves a lot faster than it used to- it's great there are more people, it's such a kind, positive thread, so I'll still be checking in, but spring is crazy time around here, I notice I'm on the boards a lot more in the winter, so if you don't see me around quite as often, I'm probably at a dance competion or wrestling match:rotfl:. Hope everyone is having success working toward your financial goals!:thumbsup2

I love it here too...I especially like the positive people! There seems to be a rash of rudeness lately on the boards. Love the vibe in here!

I hate it when that happens! I usually have to rush out after school to get my boys and can only stay later about once a month. When I can't focus on those days... uuggh!

I so can relate...I have to rush out most nights, and my office seems to be the gathering spot. I hate rushing out because I so would like to socialize...buth then again why would I want to sit and listen to a bunch of complaining....:rotfl::rotfl:

I have 3 days of catching up to do, but now is not the time. I just wanted to pop back on. Sometimes when I don't see a regular for a while I worry, so I thought I'd say where I have been.

As you guys may remember I am doing a book for Dh's 40th Birthday. It is 40 friends in 40 words and I have worked on it virtually nonstop for the last 36 hours. I stopped yesterday for an ortho appt with DD11, and we got take out after and then I had a meeting last night but I took my laptop and worked though most of the meeting. Yesterday I did not eat till dinner and I didn't go to bed till this morning at 5am and got up at 6:15. I am beyond tired. My DD16 said she'd help me but when the time came she got a bee in her bonet and didn't help. Hormones! Today she said she'd help me after school but I finished and it was already ordered. I paid for express shipping cause I don't want to worry about it.

I am finally home from dance, dinner is made, homework is almost done and I am in need of BED! Tomorrow is Take Your Parent to School Day at the High School so I need to be up early again.

I have not caught up so hope all is well. I will catch up tomorrow. Miss you all, miss sleep though too and the sleep need is winning tonight. :)

I'm in for the month! This should be a good month. No birthdays, baby showers, weddings, ect! I am hopeful that we will be spending a bit extra on moving, but we'll see if our current house rents soon. We did move back our move date to May 1st, so we have a bit more time.

I'm going for 14 no buys this month.

March 1 :cheer2:

March 2 $31 groceries, $40 gas

March 3 $20 groceries (why is there always one more thing to pick up?)

March 4 :cheer2:

March 5 :cheer2:

March 6 $273 groceries- that will hopefully keep us in food for the next 2 weeks and it includes a baby shower gift (apparently I spoke too soon when I said we didn't have any this month) and dollar bills to play a shower game.

March 7 :cheer2: PLUS, I actually won all my dollar bills back plus $36 at the shower last night. That was enough to cover my baby shower gift. Hooray!! I did pay tuition for my guys today, but that comes out of a separate account, so I'm not counting that.

March 8 $40 gas, $11 landfill run. I also got my hair cut, but I paid for that out of my shower winnings!

March 9 :cheer2:

March 10 $16 ticket to the local children's museum

March 11 $17 groceries-it was my turn to parent help in DS's class and I didn't read until this morning that I needed to bring a special snack. Nothing like an early morning grocery run. $40 gas AGAIN!

March 12 We were going to run the St. Patricks day run this morning (first run of race season, YAY!!), BUT there was a huge SNAFU where DH and I got seperated and once we finally found each other, we were too late to register (note to selves, never attempt race day registration again). The boys did run in the kids race, which was really the point anyway. Not racing saved us $60. We did spend $1 to park and $4 on doughnuts after the "race". Plus I decided to have everyone over tomorrow for corned beef and cabbage, $25 groceries for that. Tomorrow should be a no buy day.

March 13 I always jinx myself when I say "tomorrow should be a no buy day"! $65 car maintenance-oil change with some additional work. $25 packing supplies-ran out of packing tape. $30 dog food.

March 14 $30 packing supplies, $55 dinner out after a tough day of packing, $15 supplies for a garage sale to get rid of all the stuff we don't want to move.

March 15 $50 gas, $50 moving supplies (bubble wrap and tape are crazy expensive!), $8 beer for the hubby to keep him happy while he hauls boxes around the house.

March 16 Holy cow am I behind!! I have good news and bad news: the good news is we found a renter for our house. Through a great accident, I got to meet the tenants (we are dealing through property managment company and we really aren't supposed to deal with the tenants at all) and they are wonderful. The bad news: moving is EXPENSIVE!! Just moving supplies alone are adding up, plus I am always running out of something, so I'm not scoring any no buy days. On a plus note for my budget, we're moving in with my MIL between our move out date and the time we close on a new house. So, we'll be mortgage/utility free (my MIL insists we not pay rent and if I did pay her, she would put it right back in my bank account) for about 2 months. That adds up to big savings on my end. Now if we can just find a house!
$3 moving supplies, $50 medical bills, $40 Target-we had to take the boys house hunting b/c all our normal sitters were out of town or working. We promised them if they behaved like gentlemen through all the houses, we'd let them pick a new toy. We very, very rarely reward good behavior with material items, so this was a real treat for them and it was fun for us to provide the treat.

March 17 $60 supplies to fix some things at the house, $40 gas-house hunting is burning gas like crazy, $9 car wash

March 18 $4 Starbucks. I feel bad about this because we blew the chance for a no buy day.

March 19 $26 lunch. We wrote a bid on another house and it took much longer than expected. We had to grab a quick bite to eat so DH could make it to work on time.

March 20 :cheer2: FINALLY!!

03/06 :cheer2: Today will be a spend day. Have to do some shopping....It was cold and raining today...So, we only went out to go to Church and to bring DD to work. Then back in the house for the day.
03/07$160.00 Woke up to a flooded basement this morning.:scared1: By 6:30 AM my DH was at Home Depot buying a sump pump and things that go with it. Luckly I don't think there is a lot of loss. Our old house used to flood every year. We learned from that. We have a small fortune invested in totes and very few things are actually on the floor. Although we did loose a stockpile of T. Paper, paper towels, and 4 bags of dog food so far. DH was able to take the day off from work to get rid of the water and start the cleaning.
03/09$36.00 Walmart groceries and extra cleaning supplies(coupons savings $28.00.
03/10 $50.00 Lia Sophia Party. My DD is crazy about their jewelry. Ok, so am I. I've decided to become an adviser for them. Will save a ton of money and hopefully make some at the same time.
