March Break fares - what's considered good?

We have always flown out of Buffalo, but during times of unpredictable weather during the March break time, are thinking of flying out of Pearson. I do know the price will be ultimately more compared to flying out of Buffalo but we've had some bad luck with having to drive to Buffalo during stormy weather.

What is considered a good airfare from YYZ-Orlando? How soon have you typically purchased for March break?

From Pearson expect to pay $550 - $600 a ticket inc taxes during peak travel season like March Break. I always fly out of US but don't limit myself to Buffalo. I booked last January for March break and paid $496 inc taxes for 4 tickets out of Youngstown, OH with Allegiant. Definity worth the 4hr drive.

This is the first year flying March break and we probably started our search late. We're flying Mar 9-18 paying $1880 for 4 people........ Out of Rochester. Our dates & time were not very flexible. Toronto flights were over $3k when we started looking and now close to $4k.

Air Canada and Westjet showed all flights over 700 dollars when I looked a while ago. The taxes in Canada are often more then the flight in the US. You may score something thats left (march break must be very booked by now) on Air Transat or on Sunwing but we always go in March Break and we always have a 2-3 hour drive to a US airport. You just watch the weather and leave accordingly (we drove a full day ahead last year as they were calling for a blizzard that night). I really enjoy not doing customs at an airport!

Hi peacefrogdog
Mel here
I've been looking for a few weeks now,,--everything I search Sunwing -WJ and AC came out to around $845.00 per person. Just as I tried to book Air Trans the flight was for $758.00 became unavailable---called itravel and they said the return flight is booked solid.
My dates are March 11-18th 2012

I am redeeming some Petro points for this trip and need to use Itravel2000 to use them.

I found one flight for $672.00 not direct--layover in Washington for about 1 hour--- going and 1 hour returning in Chicago but atleast using my points I can live with the cost. Continental Airlines--it's been a few years since I've flown with them.
Best wishes to you
Hugs Mel

Hi, We live 10 mins from Pearson so I always try to book out of there. With WJ and AC I start looking at fares as soon as the airline releases them.( 300+ days in advance) Weekend departures are more. For March 12 I was able to book WJ for 550.00 return including taxes. The fares just continue to rise. There could be some seat sales for weekday departure.

OP...just to let you know BUF handles snow a lot better than YYZ. I really wouldn't be concerned about booking a flight at BUF in the winter. We are just as likely to get hit with a storm here in the GTA as anyone else.

In terms of fares...what the others are saying is pretty much right on. Expect to pay upwards of $700 per person. I booked last MB in January on Southwest, got non stops from BUF to MCO roundtrip for $220 all in per person.
