I have a question for all of my Southern Ontario Peeps...

If you travel during March Break, what has typically been the cost of flights from Buffalo when booked the first day they are posted? I realize this isn't an exact science, just want to get a clear idea of what to expect.

We usually travel in the fall, but DD will be in High School next year and I don't want her to feel pressure for missing too much school.

Thanks in advance for all your input and help!

We will be in the same boat next year. Our oldest starts high school. We got JetBlue for $125 in late August for March 5th return March 15th.

Hey, that's not too bad! Gonna be on the look out for when those get posted for sure.

Thanks for posting!

Book quickly is be best advice. Airfare for March Break goes in one direction - up -and quickly. Pay attention to the dates the airfare is released.

For our we had SW at around $150 pp on day of release for the flight down. Ret urn flight was released on a different date. We were on a cruise at the time and couldn't get a decent internet connection. Booked the return when we got home 5 days after it went on sale. Price for the return leg was just over $300 pp. That hurt but we had the Fantasy booked and there was no way we were cancelling.

Totally! I plan to book the flights the day they come out! Too bad for the return flight for yours...bummer.

I will also be looking at March break 2015. My kids get a trip as their 16th birthday present....our youngest turns 16 next year and has asked for an all out WDW trip. Resort, DDP, parks every day...the whole thing. I'm actually very surprised as we visit WDW every year at least once. Unfortunately for me, her b-day falls in MB....we are used to traveling at quieter times.

Anyway, being a micro planner I'm trying to gather as much info now as possible. I want to be ready to pounce on airfare.

I'm actually more concerned with the insane cost of the WDW resorts at that time of year. I looked at this years room rates :scared1: My DD might have to give up on that part of the trip and look at the DTD resorts or Bonnet Creek instead.

I hear ya...we are Wyndham owners and we are going to have to pool our points from almost two whole years just to get into Bonnet Creek for the week. Sucks, but what are you gonna do?
So, you travel during the slow months usually too? How has that worked with your kids in high school? Does it make it more difficult than when they were in grade school? This is the whole reason we are doing March Break, to avoid missing school. We WILL miss some this fall already, so can't do more, but I am concerned that we are looking at March Break trips for the next 8 years because our family will have to deal with high school that many years!:rolleyes2

We travel often at the end of August. We take longer trips, 12-14 days, so the summer is the best time for that. I realize that August is not low season for WBC though. Aside from that we have taken several trips at the end of January when exams are finished. I think we have lucked out and the girls have either had an entire week off or finished exams on Monday and then had the rest of that week free. We have only traveled on March break once. I wanted to give it a try...we did....and it's really no biggie for me.

As far as missing school goes I'm not at all a fan. I have MANY friends that let their kids stay home for just about any reason and also take them out for holidays. We do not do that. I want my kids to have good work ethics and planning holidays around school vacations is no different than planning my holidays around work commitments....that's just the way life is. That said, everyone has different priorities and every kid has a different situation with school.

Thanks for your input! I never thought about how exams fall in Jan...and that is a fantastic time to head down. Weather is always iffy that time of year, but it's better to be there in the yucky weather than not be there at all!

We are stuck with vacation time here...not even sure we are going to be able to get this March break off. DH and I are in travel and tourism and our time off is limited during summer and holidays. That being said, we are going to give it a shot. If we can't get it off, then Jan can be our back up plan.

Thanks again!!

Word of caution - our school board just released the draft calendar for the 2014-2015 school year and our March Break is proposed as the third week of March 16-20. The last few years it has fallen the week before. Not sure if this will affect crowd levels etc.

Well that would really be a problem for me. My DD's birthday is the 12th...all but one year that day has fallen inside of MB. Maybe I could persuade the child to go after exams in Jan....being value season she could have exactly the trip she wants.

What school board are you in?

We are in Eastern Ontario - south of Ottawa - Upper Canada District School Board

For this upcoming March break, we booked Southwest as soon as they opened up the schedule. For us it was $749US total for three (non stop return) and that's when our dollar was just above par. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I did see that..I googled March Break 2015 and that was the week that came up. It actually is a good thing for me, I always wanted to be down there for St Patrick's Day!!:shamrock:

Wow, that's a great deal! Unfortunately, it looks as though the exchange rate won't be cooperating anymore. :( Oh well, gotta take it as it comes. Glad to see a decent price is possible, though.

Do you recall when those dates were posted on their site for sale? Just need to plan for it financially while we are still paying and saving for this year's DCL trip.

I believe that part of the schedule opened up in mid to late August 2013. Yes, having the dollar above par was a big help!
