March 29, 2013 8 Nights on the Magic

Hi everyone, we just stumbled upon this thread and wanted to introduce ourselves. This is our (Chad & Pelan) first cruise with our kids (b/g twins that are turning 4 in a few weeks) and our first Disney cruise. We'd love to join for the meet ... so please add us to that list.

Looking forward to making new friends!

The tips will be applied to your account. You will receive tickets with your servers, stateroom host, etc names on them. You will hand them out.

If you are not eating in the dining room on the last night, you can leave them at guest services.

Tips are just under $100 a person for this cruise.

Answer
It is customary to give gratuities in recognition of service, which you will be treated to in abundance aboard the ship. As a guideline, we suggest the following, but gratuities are always at your discretion:

Per Guest per cruise 3-Night 4-Night 7-Night
Dining Room Server $12.00 $16.00 $28.00
Dining Room Asst. Server$9.00 $12.00 $21.00
Dining Room Head Server $3.00 $4.00 $7.00
Stateroom Host/
Hostess $12.00 $16.00 $28.00
Dining Manager Your Discretion
Room Service Your Discretion
Palo Gratuity included
Vista Spa & Salon Your Discretion
Babysitting Gratuity not expected
Port Adventures Optional;
not included in port
adventure price.
You can choose to pre-pay gratuities for your party up to three days before your vacation begins by contacting Disney Cruise Line; or, for the convenience of our Guests who have not pre-paid, the suggested gratuity amounts will be added to your onboard account, based on the length of your voyage as shown in the table above.

If you wish to modify or make changes to the gratuity amounts or would like to pay in cash, please stop by our Guest Services desk, located on Deck 3, Mid-ship, at anytime during your sailing.

Please note, a 15% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine and deck service tabs. All gratuities can be charged to your room charge. (At the Walt Disney World Resort, 15% is the customary gratuity at restaurants and bars.)

Thank you everyone for all the details.

Hi!!! So excited to see more little ones! I have a 3 to lil girl and 5 yo lil boy. They will love to have more little ones to play with!

My name is Annie and I am an over planner. :)

Hi Annie, we respect you...

------
Welcome Julie - You are in the FE#2 List
Welcome Chad - You are in the Meet Only List

Totally of DCL topic but do any of you have an iPad mini? I have two iPad 3rd gen for work and iPhone 4s all with retina display. I know the mini doesn't have it. I like the size, but not sure if the lesser picture is worth it. Just wondering if any of you had experience with both and what your feelings were.

Both my mom and DD love their iPad minis, however neither have had a retina display nor a full size iPad to compare against. Sorry, I can't tell you if their love is misplaced.

for those who may be going on their first cruise or not sure what to pack, here's some tidbits you might find useful:

julie

Thanks Julie for the link. Although I have been on three DCL before, I gave it a looksie to learn something new.

However, I must correct something from that link. I was on the Wonder in December and the coin operated laundry was not, in fact, coin operated any longer -- you use your KTTW card. Prices aren't any cheaper, but at least you don't have to worry about quarters!

I am worried about the heat as well. We are waiting to decide weather to do the trolley or just walk and it depends on the heat and humidity. You would think from living in the south and born in south fl I'd be use to it but that's not the case. Some family told me it was about a mile and a half one way does that sound about right or was it longer?

The shark excursion sounds really cool.

Yea, us Michiganders have 105% humidity in the summer, and Key West blew me away. Key West average temp between March and April is around 80 degrees, so may not be too bad. From Mallory Square to SMP is approximately 65682.2 inches, or about 2.5 miles round trip walking on Whitehead St.

It was certainly flatter and far shorter than the walk from Skagway to Upper Reid's Falls, but I might say less enjoyable.

Anyone else having trouble logging it to the disney site to change your info? I've been getting an error message for two days now, and I need to change something on our check in.

We had that issue twice, once was too many linked cabins. The other was an incorrect birthday botching things up. Had to call in to support both times.

Anyone knows about the time frame that DCL could assign cabin number? My agent said about two weeks before sail date. Wonder if the case for anyone in the past, or experience it sooner.

What is the typical FE gift deliver for 8 day cruise? I do hope one or twice could be enough, otherwise packing could be a problem. We can deliver any time during the day right?

Thanks

The dolphin watching is booked for Key West which is of course, the only thing that my son would have loved to do. Does anyone know any tours for Key West that involve dolphins?

Hi Annie,
I received an email today from my travel agent about excursions they sell themselves at different ports. The rates are cheaper than booking with DCL. Maybe you can contact your agent or I can give you my agent's name and you can see what is available in Key West.

If you book on your own, just make sure you get back in time to catch the boat!

The best excursion we did last time was on an excursion not run by DCL. Can you give me her contact info? PM please :)

I was given a cabin assignment at about 30 days once, another time it was a week before.

Fe delivery is up to you. I just deliver once during the cruise.

If anyone inFE #1 wants to join FE #2, you can. Just let Erik know.
