March 28th 3 Day Cruise

:welcome:

The official cut-off for the list was Feb. 28, so it wouldn't be fair to add you at this late date. :sad1:

HOWEVER, I do know that several folks have extras and are happy to have someone to give them to. So, how about this as a compromise, we will add you as a latecomer and anyone who can add you to their list will do so. Does this work?

If so, we'll need your cabin #. And again :welcome: to DCL and our group!

Thank you! That would be great! My daughter stayed up late last night searching the internet (pinterest mostly) to get ideas. She woke up at 5:30! this morning and started looking some more. I guess you will give us a list once you know who we can join with?

We are cabin #7102
We are all super excited about our first Disney Cruise.

For all you first-timers (and those CC members who aren't sure) - here's the FE (Fish Extender) explanation:

Outside each cabin on the ship by the door is a pewter fish. The crew uses this to leave you messages and other things. For example, if you rebook onboard, they will send you the confirmation in an envelope and it will be placed on the fish.

So, many years ago, a creative DISer decided that they could improve on this concept and "extend" the fish by adding hanging pockets from it. Then they could play secret santa and run around and leave small surprises in everyone else's "fish extenders" too. And the Fish Extender was born.

A Fish Extender exchange is organized by someone on your cruise meets thread. That person (or team of people) volunteers to coordinate a list for everyone who wants to participate. Often they will also post cabin updates, etc. on their door in case something changes once onboard. I'm happy to do this.

So what do you give/get in a fish extender? Really, anything you want. Some people will buy FE gifts, things like candy, special cruise pens/pencils, pirate accessories, etc. Others get a bit more creative and make things like cruise music cd's or cruise survival kits with aloe, aspirin, kleenex, highlighters, etc. Still other crazy individuals will handmake their entire gift. I have seen things from cross-stitch bookmarks, individual oil paintings, keychains, and luggage tags, to personalized picture frames, door magnets, and Disney lithographs. There is no cost guideline - but I would say the average spent is about $5 on each FE gift. That said, there are no rules and it's the thought that counts.

FE gifts are generally delivered after dinner the first night until mid-day the last day. They are not delivered during the last evening because that's when everyone is packing and leaving. On a 3-day cruise, that does limit when they can be delivered. But the groups tend to be a lot smaller on 3-day cruises.

You can deliver one general gift to each participating cabin, or you can personalize them for each cabin - for example, something small picked out especially for each member of that family. For example, somthing appropriate for a young girl, a teenage boy, and two adults. Or something for two adults, or something for two young girls and one adult. It's entirely up to you! You can also put your name and contact info on the gift, or keep it anonymous. Many people like to thank folks for the gifts they receive, but others really like the "santaesque" quality in staying secret.

Pros:
- Get to see all over the ship!
- Can peek into most kinds of cabins while wandering and really get a feel of the different categories.
- Meet fun people
- A GREAT way to convince the kids to leave the clubs - they'll really want to see what surprises might await in their pockets.
- Get wonderful souvenirs of your Disney cruise that you couldn't buy anywhere.
- Get creative and have a ton of fun preparing for your cruise - it extends that vacation feeling

Cons:
- Are there any?
- Ok, yes a couple.
- if you have a big group, this can really take a toll on your baggage, particularly if you are flying. I had a FE group once that had 80 cabins - that's a LOT of stuff to haul with you! (And take home!)
- If you've got a lot planned for your cruise, this can add to your time schedule.

There are several DIS threads that go over FE's, just search for Fish Extender. Also, you can make your own FE. There are duct-tape FEs and pot-holder FE's or stocking FE's. Or you can buy them from artists on Etsy.com and Ebay.com. They tend to run $20-30 +shipping depending on how fancy you want to go. Here is a picture of ours:

So that's the story on FE's.

To the people that have cruised on Disney before: Can we expect lots of older teens to be on board. My son is 17 and I'm worried about older teens being on board. Based on this thread there seems to be plenty of kids my DD's age.

Yippee!! Thank you, for letting us in on the FUN!

The count down is on in our house! Hubby continues to ask, daily, how many days 'til we ride the aqua-duck!

Being new to the FE event, can someone clear up the details? Do we "gift" each day or do we "gift" once? Do we EVER meet or is it anonymous? If we meet, do we gather as a group on a certain day?
Thx!

It's all up to how often you like to run around. My girls, 11 & 14, love the thrill of the delivery so they have requested to deliver one a day. Luckily we are all on only 4 decks or so. Glad you got your cabin # now you can ignore the ? On your fe gifts. We like to meet the first few hrs on the ship usually in a lounge or lobby area. The kids really like to get the face to face. Lets see what the group thinks. If anyone wants to send me an email at claudydl@msn.com we can chat more privately about meeting times and kids get together. It is fun to see if any fe'ers are on excursions together etc. We are doing catamaran snorkel, parasailing and stingray. We are counting down the days till aqua duck also!

Hi Everyone,

It has been a while since we have been on the DIS boards. I cannot believe we are almost there! Yesterday we booked some excursions and today we are nailing down the transportation too and from the ship/airport.
Next...FE.

See you all soon,
Bonnie

Hi Again Everyone,

I was just looking at the FE list and I forgot to add my parents, who will be sailing with us. I don't know where my head was. :confused3:confused:

3princessMommy, thanks for organizing the list. Great job.:cheer2:

So, if anyone would like to include them at this late date, that would be nice, but no pressure please. It was my crazy brain that forgot to list them. :headache:

If interested, they are :

Brent - 70 M
Lorraine - 70 F
Room # 6074

Their room is actually 6176, but they don't have their own FE, this is more of a surprise for them.

OK, I think I have rambled quite enough. Hope everyone's packing/planning is going well. I cannot believe how close we are getting!

Take care,
Bonnie

Jumping in here as we are setting sail on this cruise and we are considerably late in the game for the fun of the Fish Extenders.

There will be 13 of us in all, a great family get together for us! Can't wait to see all these beautiful doors!

We are State Room 7188, and the rest of our family are in 3 other rooms on the same deck. Looking forward to a great time!!!

Hi I am 18 (M) in my first year of college going to school to become a teacher. :thumbsup2

Great Justin! DS will turn 18 in the fall. He is in high school, but attends the local college for some of his classes. Are you planning to dress up for pirate night? If so, all out or pirate tshirt?

? for others who are seasoned Disney cruisers...do many teens dress up for pirate night?

Karen
SO EXCITED ABOUT CRUISE!

I am wearing a pirate t-shirt and something from our FE gift. I dont want to give it away so you'll see when you receive yours. I will make sure you get them before pirates night. Hey I am a Disney kid at heart so don't be suprised if I decide to go all out. LOL

Hi Everyone!!!!:wave2:

We are preparing to fly to FL soon and I wanted to make sure that everyone has the final FE list. I will print it and post it on my cabin in case anyone forgets it. Also if you have any changes at check-in, please come and change it on my door so that you get your gifts. (The list on my door will only have DIS Names and cabin #'s. No other identifiable information.)

See you all soon!

Is anyone interested in getting the kids together at 3pm on embarkation day by the Mickey slide to meet for 30 minutes?

Sure we will be up on deck trying the pool/aqua ducks. I was so busy with work I waited to check in and my boarding time is 2:30-3:00 but I'm confident we will be on before that!:cool1: We will look for you by the Mickey slide!:cheer2:

Feeling a little awkward since we didn't commit to FE but I'm sure we'll be around . I signed up for. 11:30 arrival but we are at the mercy of the disney bus schedule so I'm not sure how that will play out. Looking forward to some sunshine and the smell of the ocean. Ahhhh... ;-)

Hi All,

To everyone on the FE list, we are Bonnie & Gerry in 6074.

We added my parents to our FE cabin (Brent & Lorraine), but due to a death in the family, they will not be joining us on the cruise.

Thanks for understanding,
Bonnie
