We only go to WDW every few years and we won't have a full trip until spring 2020 so we can join the throngs visiting Star Wars land. We've stayed offsite, at AoA, and Contemporary, which I loved for the nightly MK fireworks.

For a weeklong trip that will include 2 MK days, 2 HS days, 1 EP, and 1 AK day, with special interest in being at HS early and late, which moderate or deluxe resort would you recommend?

Looking at the EPCOT resorts, the walk seems far to HS and the boat slow. Do we expect the CBR gondolas actually function as efficient transportation or to be bogged down with lines?

Thanks!

(replying to my own post to note that we will probably be priced out of the new star wars hotel, though we may tack on one night there).

We like BWI (and BWV) for the walk to DHS. It is not overly long, IMHO, and we always beat the boats back to the resort. If you don't mind staying "offsite", the Swan is about the same walking distance to DHS and the boat dock at Swan/Dolphin is the first stop after DHS and last stop before, making it super convenient. If you'd rather "split" the difference with walking and boating, YC is your best bet.

When our trips are heavily focused on DHS and EP, BWI/BWV is our resort choice. We love the walk!

Depending on which Epcot area resort, the walk to HS is only 15-20 minutes at a moderate pace.

I would say BC or YC. BC is our favorite, but Yacht is a bit closer.

FWIW, the new SW Hotel is supposed to have a minimum length of stay. It's not going to be a check in at 3, check out at 11, one night stay is okay place. I think they were saying 3 night minimum.

We prefer the Epcot resorts and the BW would be best location wise. The walk to DHS is roughly 15 minutes. The walk to Epcot is 10 minutes. The bus rides to MK and AK are both 15 minutes max. The ability to walk back to a resort after the park closes and not have to wait on transportation is great. When either DHS or Epcot close at 9, you can expect to be back to your room by 9:30 after the fireworks to BW. I find this a great perk to have. Also, the BW does not share any buses to AK or MK.

Okay. My son/ husband would love that, I could tolerate-to-enjoy it, but DD6 would HATE that much SW.

For our family of 13 adults.(.kids...grandkids..)...I am thinking instead of trying for late 2019...would just go in May of 2020....I pick May as all the grand kids would be out of college classes and we have gone at that time in for a week in 2017...leaving before Memorial Day...staying at BWV....so we can boat over to DHS.....

I'm also planning a March 2020 trip :-) I've stayed at the Contemporary and Grand Floridian in recent years but after doing research I plan to stay at the Yacht Club for that trip. My family has grown tired of the monorail. I like the closeness to Epcot World Showcase and HS. I've heard it's a 15 minute walk to HS from YC. We don't mind the walking but my kids with both be teenagers at that time. I am so excited to try out the YC/BC Storm Along Bay pool! I just made my hotel only reservation last week because I want to get the most inexpensive Club Level room, I know they can sell out.

Just FYI the Star Wars Hotel VERY likely won't be open until 2021-ish, they haven't even started pouring the foundation for it yet.

And as PP mentioned it appears that it's going to run (and be priced) a lot more like a cruise ship, with a set number of days you'll be "on" the ship and participating in the storyline. Nothing is certain yet because we're still pretty far out from THAT opening, but all roads seem to point in that direction.

Do we know when that hotel is expected to open yet? I wonder if they have started building it. I haven't heard much about it.

Oh, ha! Guess that answered my question.

We have stayed at the Beach Club in the EPCOT area and we love it. We walked from the resort to HS and it was about a 10-15 minute walk (my kids were 7 and 9 at the time and they didn't complain). The boat can be slow and doesn't start running until maybe 30 minutes before the park opens and there is no bus to HS so walking is the best option. The walk from BC to EPCOT is about 5 minutes and you enter between France and the UK.

And once the structure is built, they're creating a lot of new and immersive technology. That will take time to install and implement. It's not supposed to be very large, either, so, reservations will be hard to come by and it will be very pricey.
