March 2011: Just Passing Through The Fort To The Keys

In my experience, it would say that it is definitely family friendly. Here is the link for Hogfish. http://www.hogfishbar.com/ I know it says bar, but it really is a "bar & grill". Right on the water. Also, i think it is within walking distance of Boyd's.

AS for Red Fish Blue Fish....I can ONLY speak of the Ahi Tuna Appetizer. Didn't try anything else. So if you want a snack...give 'em another try! Really, really good!

When we are traveling...we like to try LOTS of stuff. So, we eat more appetizers out than actual meals. Walk a little, eat a little, drink a little and repeat! This way we can keep going and going and going...! Good times!:thumbsup2

Another good place which is near Sloppy Joe's is Partners. We ate there last June on our trip for fun. It was reasonable and good. BTW, Hogfishs' motto is find us if you can. It's within walking distance of Boyds.

So....it was in KW, called Partners, and you ate there for fun? Well, okey dokey then!;) Is that family friendly?

We stayed at Boyd's this past spring break and LOVED it!

We were able to bring our boat and dock it right behind the site. Our golf carts are street legal so we were able to ride our carts into Key West... it was awesome :cool1:

Here are some pics:
You can see the fish cleaning station in the background:

Ride your bikes on US1 if you have them, it was gorgeous!

I need to add the people who work there were some of the nicest people we have ever met! They offered to move our trailers, boat trailers, and put the boat in the water for us without us even saying a word! They are top notch :thumbsup2

SORRY I didn't know the pics were so big!!

Hogfish is really close to Boyds! My friend Megan lives on Stock Island which is where Boyd's is.

Megan (pictured in the bike pic above) is a 6th generation "conch" :worship:

She is RELATED to Captain Tony and Jimmy Buffet is a family friend. Everywhere I went when I mentioned I was friends with her I got a discount- EVERYHWERE. Turns out her family is kinda famous in the Keys :confused3

Lucy_love,

Thanks for posting the pictures. They correspond to what I've seen thus far of Boyd's. Too bad we can't "rent" your friend Megan to get the discounts around town.

But I do have a question. I saw your bike pix - I like to take our bikes when we go camping at various state parks and at the Fort for my three kids (and me). But with the traffic along US1 and the location of Boyd's I was assuming we would have to leave the bikes at home this coming trip. Remember that I have a DD who will be 12 next March and two teenage sons and a very protective DW; can we ride the bikes much outside of Boyd's (which is kind of compact)? If it were just me and DW, I'd be game but I am responsible for my young 'uns (and I have to answer to "she-who-must-be-obeyed").

Can you or anyone else advise? If it's marginal I'll leave the bikes at home (tongue weight and all) but if there is an advantage I'll load 'em up. I don't expect to be able to ride down to Duval Street but all the same, I don't want my kids in the pop-up playing the stupid video games  If I can get them out on a bike I would prefer it.

The area around Boyd's is not the greatest. My friend Megan said it is very safe it just looks run down because that is where all the workers from KW live (maids, etc.).

Even though you do have to go on US 1, we felt very safe because the sidewalk is very wide but I don't have kids so I can't give a parent perspective ;)
