For those who are new to this fun cruise experience, a fish extender group is basically a gift exchange, with a little extra pixie dust magic! The Fish Extender itself is a pocket panel you hang from the fish shaped hook outside your stateroom. These can be homemade or you can purchase them on sites like Etsy, you can also find some pictures on Google or DIS forums. Families that join the FE group hang the Fish Extender outside their cabin and then, once the cruise gets underway, participants deliver little gifts to the others participating in the group by leaving them as a surprise in the fish extender pockets. One fun aspect of taking part in a fish extender group is checking in throughout the day to see what little goodies are waiting!

It's a ton of fun, not just for kids, and you can either give one gift to each cabin, or a gift to each person in the cabin. You can give gifts a few times throughout the cruise or just once. There are no rules regarding gifts (no minimum or maximum dollar value). Often times, the gifts are handmade, but not always. No real set rules, just exchange and have fun! Gifts can be homemade or storebought, Disney, non-Disney, totally up to you! That's part of the fun . . . the variety of neat things that everyone brings!

We booked this cruise on our Oct 2011 Mexican Riviera Cruise, and 2013 seemed so far away. Now it's just a little over a year, and with the FE signup, it is already starting to seem more real Thanks for setting this up. We're really looking forward to the trip. We were fortunate to be able to sail on the inaugural cruise of the Disney Dream in Jan. 2011, and were so impressed with the cabin we stayed in that we booked the same cabin on the Fantasy! Can't wait to get to stay in it again

Although we have one Disney cruise under our belt, we've yet to participate in the FE exchange.....

I'm trying to figure out how to do this, as we have 2 cabins with a total of 7 of us. Would it be easier for us all to be included, but count us as two FE exchanges (I'd do two seperate gifts, one from each cabin), or just include the 4 kids and do one FE exchange (Receive and give gifts to just one cabin for the kids)? I hope I'm making sense....Any thoughts?

It would be DH, myself, DS18, DD15 And her BFF15, DS12, and DS6. So should I divide into two seperate FE's (and we all participate), or just do one for the kids (excluding my DS18)?

I think you should do whatever works best for your family. But either way, I don't think you should feel obligated to do two gifts just because you have two cabins to accommodate your family. It's all about the fun so don't stress and just do what's easiest for you and your family.

I think we'll go ahead and count ourselves as two seperate rooms, so everyone can participate. We'll make two seperate FE gifts, one for each cabin. We do have connecting cabins. I'll name one cabin "Gooftroop" and the other one "Gooftroop2"

Our celebration? Mike and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary, however, along with the celebration of our marriage, is also the 10 year anniverary of the Unity of our family. Sounds confusing, I know....LOL

I adopted Andrew, Jazmine, and Jeremy as a single parent. When Mike and I married, he then adopted all three kids. We later adopted Jacob together. So we are celebrating our entire family's 10 year coming together.

Also, all three of our boys have autism. They are moderate to high functioning. We sailed for the first time in January. Jeremy had such a wonderful experience in the Club/Lab. We were told that he could only partake in these clubs as long as he was under 13 years of age. After getting home from our January cruise, and receiving a pin code in the mail from DCL, we decided to rebook before his 13 birthday, giving him one last time to partake in the kids' activities.

I think this sums up our family!

Hey everyone! I am on the verge of booking this cruise! It will be our 2nd Disney cruise. We had a blast doing FE last time! Looks like it may just be me and my DD who will be 11 then. Hubby can't escape from work. Oh well. I love him, but that won't stop me from cruisin'! I am working with Dreams Unlimited to get this in the works. I really wanted a cat 5E, but I am only getting a guarantee. If I go that route I may not know a cabin number until travel documents come!! I will keep you all posted!! The Fantasy looks incredible!!
