I was just wondering if they ask for a Birth Certificate for the marathons. My neice really wants to do a marathon with me, and we will be there for the Race for the Taste, and I was thinking of signing her up for it. She will be 11 by then, but only by a couple of weeks(actually her bday is Sept 13th)...should I bring her Birth Certificate or am I OK??? THANKS!!!

When I picked up DD13's race packet for the Minnie 15K, they didn't ask me for anything. We had gone so far as to copy her school ID and have her sign a note that I could pick up her packet for her...they never asked for any of it. Not sure if the half/full would have tighter restrictions, but I'm betting Race for the Taste would be just as easy.

We were asked for a photo id for the marathon/half marathon to prove that we were real.

Do you mean she will be doing Race for the Taste?

What is the age requirement for that? I'm not sure if they will check her age to verify that one. It is a shorter race and may be ok. I think what the Disney folks have a problem with mostly is younger ones going "back stage."

Sorry, I answered my own question above:
Eligibility
Runners must be 11 years of age or older. All participants must be able to maintain a 15-minute per mile pace

There is time to get a "state id" if there is concern for her age documentation, but I'm thinking if a parent/guardian says she is of age, that should be sufficient. She will be the correct age.

Hope you have fun together.

Lily--it has nothing to do with age...rather a safety issue.

You can't have 6 year olds trying to run 6 miles--not healthy with their bodies.

On the half and full--you can't have tweens doing it for the same reason--it just isn't healthy.

In fact for a full marathon--you really should be an adult as that is when your body will be developed properly.

I have seen discussion on Runner's World and youngin's who are "old enough" are actually discouraged by veteran racer's from participating in half and full marathons. In the short run they may do fine--but in the long run it can be very bad for there bodies.

I'm not sure all the *real* health reasons--but they are health related and not necessarily so Disney's back stage doesn't get seen. :).

Good luck to everyone racing!!! I'm working on my girls. LOL! No more fun runs for them...at Disney anyway. :)
