Marathon weekend - hotel booking question

I called a couple of weeks ago to book our vacation (the Wed before Marathon weekend until the Fri after) and they said I can't book until August, that their booking for 2012 doesn't open up until then. I called twice to get 2 different bookers on the phone and they both told me the same thing.

I've seen others say they already have their hotels booked for the marathon.

???

Also, if I'm actually participating in Marathon weekend (running a race, or Goofy), do we get any deals on hotel pkgs? When we were there in 2010 during Race weekend, I was chatting with the person in front of me to check into our hotel on Friday night before the races. She said she got a deal because she's running in the race.

Has anyone heard of this? Whenever I ask reservations, they say that there's no deals for runners.

You can find runner package information under the Travel Details section of the run Disney website. The site lists a 407-WDW-IRUN number to call for package details.

I think the package deal last year was a whopping savings of $19.

You can book now, but you have to book room only, and pay a deposit equal to one night at the highest rate that room goes for during the year (if I remember correctly). Once prices are released in August, you can call back and rebook as a package.

There's no real reason to book now. August is plenty of time.
