CM: Myself (32) and DM (50ish
) went down for 5 days for the 1/2 marathon this past weekend. Here is what we ate and my thoughts
Friday - arrival day -- dinner at Boma -- our second time here and just as pleased as the first in Dec '03 -- our server was excellent, i'm sorry I don't remember his name to share. He explained everything prior to hitting the buffet and was very prompt in clearing dishes, refilling waters, etc. Here is what I remember eating: pasta salad, Kool Slaai, Moroccan Seafood Salad - Couscous, mussels, scallops and shrimp, a very yummy corn and cilantro salad, three different kinds of soups (one seafood chowder, butternut squash), some type of lamb stew with a cornbread topping which was a tiny sweet and very yummy, prime rib with speciality mustard sauce (my slices were very fatty and i ate very little of it), a very sweet and yummy sweet potatoe dish (looked like baby food - tasted very good!). I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried the three different hummus available with baked pita pieces, it was excelllent! i do not like the grocery-store variety of hummus, but I was encouraged from a diser we were dining with to try it and I actually went back for seconds! There was an olive one, sun-dried tomato one and the third was something a tad spicy. The olive one was my absolute favorite! For desserts I had a zebra dome, chocolate mousse truffle type, something like a bakalava, and coconut tiramisu. My favorite was the tiramisu by far and the chocolate mouse truffle. I like zebra domes too, but just not my top choice
Saturday - day before marathon so we were careful to avoid fried greasy foods - breakfast at Boardwalk Bakery where we split a fat-free muffin and a chocolate/vanilla pretzel. Unfortunately their cappucino machine wasn't working - though i'm sure it was just a gas station type machine and not a starbucks
anyhoo -- the fat-free muffin was very moist and flavorful, I would have no problems orering it again. The pretzel was very sweet and rich, I was surprised at the texture of the dough, it was a dry flaky dough, it was very good just not what i expected from something shaped like and called 'pretzel'
lunch - Columbia Harbour House in MK -- we split an Anchors Aweigh Sandwich - white tuna with lettuce and tomato on toasted multigrain bread - this was excellent. the bread was fresh and nutty and yummy. We opted for a bag of mini-carrots instead of french fries and left there feeling revived and not with a heavy in the tummy feeling. This was my second time here and a great place for a fast yet health-conscious meal
dinner -- Trails' End Buffet at FW- with 40 or so of our closest WISH board friends for a pre-marathon meal. Here I started with a salad from the bar then filled up on Smoked Pork ribs, quarted seasoned Red Potatoes, Pasta salad, Prime Rib with horseradish, Pasta in marinara sauce with cheese, and Macaroni & Cheese. For dessert there was cinnamon sugar topped crisps with fruit topping, and Bread Pudding with vanilla sauce (which was excellent!)
