Yes, you read that right. Putting out a marker for the 2027 race. I turn 50 around the same time this race will occur, and earlier this morning my wife and I came to an incentive-laden agreement to do the Dopey Challenge if I hit certain health benchmarks by this time next year.

The MLK holiday is always the third Monday in Jan, and thus on Jan 18, 2027. Under usual past practice if Disney continues to follow it, the marathon "weekend" is the one that ends 8 days before that holiday, meaning Jan 6-10, 2027.

I am also considering Dopey in 2027. I did the marathon for my 50th in 2022. Seriously feeling the FOMO this week. 😂

Basically, if I’m down to 190 by my next birthday (fluctuating in low to mid 220’s). Gives me a full year to drop 30-ish pounds.

If I get to 180 we can splurge for a nicer room.
As someone with similar numbers and goals, I'd say be content with getting down to ~200 in the span of a year, assuming that the weight came off slowly as that it has a higher chance of being off permanently. I managed to get down to right at 202-203, then sustained an injury and between that and the holiday season, managed to put back on 7-8 pounds. So now it's back to being more disciplined about the eating while I ramp back up on the exercise to try to get back to <200 for MW 2026.
Just saying, for me the goal is to take it off and keep it off for good, so slow is better.

I'm also thinking about Dopey in 2027! I'll be 53. I've done one full, in 2018, and haven't run a half since doing the princess weekend challenge in 2024. I figure I'll need two years to prepare 😆, but the looking at the training plan it makes me wonder how people that work full time train!

Debating either marathon or goofy in 2027! but really love the 2026 themes so hope they are as good for the following year

I was originally thinking Dopey for 2026, but my running has fallen off the past couple years and I am not ready. I did the Princess Half this weekend and while I easily finished, there’s just no way I can do that distance plus double that distance in just 11 months. I am going to focus the rest of 2025 on building back up and maybe aim for Dopey in 2027. I turn 40 in April of 2027, so it might be a good kind of lead up to that. :)

I trained for the Dopey in the span of a year. The HARM method in my signature is essentially what I did. The answer to your question about how to train when you work is a lot of maintenance runs of 3 to 4 miles at least every other day. As I got closer to MW I often did my maintenance runs back-to-back to get myself used to the back-to-back runs that Dopey requires. I tried to do longer runs on the weekends, and I did, but never to the full distances called out by Galloway or similar training plans. So for me, the Dopey was about building up overall stamina and endurance, not necessarily for a given distance. And as I have noted in prior posts, the Dopey was (and is) an exercise in exertion management for the first three races to leave enough in the tank for the marathon. Good luck with it!
YMMV

This is 100% spot on for me as well. And yeah, it makes me feel a little bit lame to turn to DH and be all we are going to do intervals for the 5k, for the first half the the 10k and then walk the 2nd half, then run to MK in the Half and walk it in, and then see how it goes on Sunday. Because I'm not fast, and I would burn myself out massively if I decided to do intervals for all 4 races. So I frame it as an endurance challenge and am happy to finish.

I'll also add that I went [almost] 0 to May HM, to October Full, to January Goofy my first year. (I 100% understand I am a sample size of 1, but it's also pretty easy to over-inflate the difficulty of the goal. You don't have to race any of the distances.) If you have a pretty good fitness base from other things it's not out of the question to consider it for 2026.

I love the early thread! I am thinking of doing Goofy in 2027. I did Dopey this year and loved it, but the 4 early wakeups are what really killed me. I don't see a real need to do the 5K and the 10K and have the extra hotel days, PTO, etc. But I LOVED the marathon and the half marathon.

Ditto, ditto. I did Dopey in '22, so it was bucket list item checked off and the extra time for a 5 and 10 just aren't worth it, at least not currently, so Goofy for me.
Kudos on completing the Dopey and welcome to the Goofy side.

So how many of my fellow aspiring ‘27 Marathon entrants are getting anxious already about your chances to get in next year given how today went?
