Marathon Weekend 2017!

So watching the weather here for next week as I have an hour+ drive to the airport on Friday. Thursday night's forecast is for ice and snow. Our first of the year. Ugh I am hoping that changes! Down here in the south when it snows people go crazy and I really hate being on the highway with them. Same thing happened last year for Princess weekend and I ended up heading to Little Rock a day early as I had an early am flight and stayed at a hotel with a free shuttle. I may end up doing that again - my flight isn't until noon but snow is forecast for Thursday night and Friday. :/

Stupid Arkansas!! I had a feeling it might snow when I would try to fly down. We leave from Memphis, though, so hopefully that mess won't be there then!

Sorry if this answer can be found elsewhere...

Is there transportation to the Expo from the parks and back? If we hit the parks on day one, I would just run to the Expo, grab my stuff, and meet up with the family. A race expo wouldn't be tops on their list.

Nope. You'll need to get from a park to a resort and take the bus from there.

Not race related, but I'm extremely grateful we signed up to run this year so we can watch the Magic Kingdom Welcome Show one last time. It's been our favorite for years. But, super excited to see the new one on the 9th!

Food question: After the marathon do you usually go back to the resort to change and clean up and then eat? Or prefer to eat first? Going over all our dining and FP+ plans one last time.

After the marathon? Back to the room to shower, change, NAP, and then out to eat. Key is to elbow lesser family members out of the way in order to be first to the shower so that I don't get left standing/leaning against a wall (cuz don't want to get the bed/floor/chairs all yucky from sweat while waiting).

Kind of a silly question, but does course security (or accepted race customs) prevent finishers from reattaching their bibs and retracing their steps to a portion of the course off-limits to regular park guests? This year I'm shooting for quickest time, so I plan to minimize photo stops (only the Castle)/no Everest/etc - but I'd really really really like to stop and listen to the choir at the end. After finishing is it possible for me to legally reenter Epcot with my MagicBand and then go back to see the choir? I wouldn't recross the finish line afterwards, just return to Spaceship Earth.

Any distinguishing features that would help us ID Julie as we pass this particular water stop? I'm usually in a zoned out fog at that point in the race, but I'm more than willing to do so if I remember.

She has reddish brown shoulder-length pageboy hair, glasses, in her mid 40's. I can show you a picture at the meet up before the marathon if that would help.

Hey @Keels! I know where one of my gift cards is going! :)

Oh that would be awesome! You guys are THE BEST!

LOL "lesser family members"

That would help. I have a photographic memory so if you show me a picture I'll likely recognize her later. The question is at the end of a marathon will I remember to remember??? :scratchin

I know! I am still hoping the forecast will change, for the better, lol. We flew out of Memphis in September for our family vacation to WDW and saved so much money vs. Little Rock! But when planning this trip I knew DH would not want to drive me to Memphis to drop me off and pick me up (3 hr drive if I remember right), and I figured I wouldn't want to drive that far alone in winter weather, because, ugh, snow?! :)

I don't eat until hours after a race. I'm never hungry. I am, however, always very thirsty and begin my rehydration at the beer truck after the finish. Then it's back to the room for an ice bath & beer, shower, and out to the parks for more rehydration. I'm finally hungry at 6 or 7 so we make our dinner plans then.

I eat some stuff from the snackbox we get at the end, SHOWER, and then eat more after.

I'm guessing that is not allowed...runners only on the course, especially backstage.

John is correct, you need to go from a resort if you take the bus. However, if the family is at Magic Kingdom you could walk next door to the Contemporary and catch the bus there.

Sorry, they won't allow that. You might get away with it but you're asking for trouble.

Same here, my stomach can't handle much afterwards. I don't do the ice bath & beer, but I do pound shower beers #dontjudge

Shower beers! Yes! DH thinks he wants Via Napoli for lunch and I have seen him after his marathons and he is NEVER that hungry...

Same here. After drinking some chocolate milk, I'm not hungry until much later. I can, however, eat a piece of bacon if they are handing it out post-race (which they do for a couple local races.)

so........ got my results from my surprisingly painful more complicated than expected exploratory surgery yesterday... small tumor found with a 3% chance of cancer... guess when they're scheduling the removal and tests.... right before the glass slipper challenge.... I swear if anything happens before Tinkerbell i'll cry...
