Marathon Weekend 2017!

Glad to help! I'm having trouble with the half marathon image in photobucket, so I'll have to take that offer off the table for now!
No problem- the full was what I was specifically looking! Plus, part of me thinks you could always use the other WDW half weekends (excluding Princess) to compare placements as I'm assuming the fields are fairly similar? Though, I don't know that for sure- might be interesting to compare!

Question for you @Ariel484-does this burn up your battery faster? Say you were doing a half, how would your garmin hold up? TIA!
I have the FR620 and I have mine on vibrate. I just ran the Pgh Half marathon this past weekend and I use the vibrate mode as well. I still had 70% of the life left in the battery. I also turned the watch on about 20-25 minutes before the race started, so it was running for almost 2 1/2 hours. I know this isn't the same watch as Ariel484, but I believe the battery life should be similar and hers may actually be better since it's a newer model.

Thanks for the info @Diskidatheart, @Ariel484 and @croach!

@girliea I can tell you that I am really impressed with the battery life. I wear the watch daily for step tracking and smart notifications, but with the way my schedule works I am mostly running on the treadmill, so I don't use the GPS feature as much yet (and I know that is the biggest battery drain). Lately I have been charging the watch every 2-2.5 weeks or so, which is pretty good I think!

I agree, VERY happy with the day to day battery life.. I havent gotten to us the GPS much either, same as you. But I dont think it's going to be an issue.. Very glad I went with the 230 instead of one of the more expen$ive ones..

Here's a modest proposal - let Disney be your second half! Sign up and run/walk/crawl a half marathon in about 3:15 or so prior to October and you'll be able to start anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour before the last corral does - getting you in front of literally thousands of runners and letting you breathe easier when lining up for pictures and what not...

Thanks for the suggestion! I went ahead and signed up for a 5K next month, 10K in a few more months, and half in October to get prepped!

chear squad is still greyed out and half is still listed as open. wonder whats up

I wonder too , I want to try and do it for the full day , the wife is doing the dopey and since Im goint to be there for the start I would like to have a nice place to sit and hang out

I stayed at Pop for marathon weekend this year. I had two "problems":
1 - The poster with all of the hours and information didn't show up in the lobby until Friday morning
2 - On 5K morning, the bus picked up in a different place than it had for the expo (and it ended up picking up in the expo spot again for the 10K, which is the only other race I did). We did, however, see the bus (and line) right away, and had no other problems with the buses.

Overall, the problems were insignificant and I'd definitely stay there again for marathon weekend.

we are staying at POP for wine and dine , will keep that in mid about the poster
thanks!

This is a great idea, as the number one complaint I have with my Garmin is that I can never hear the "beeps", Gymboss is so light,I wouldn't mind wearing both.

For all of you that run with your phones, can you recommend a "comfy" arm band or other carrying device (I can not run with anything in my hands). I have a newish Samsung.

I tried using an arm band it drove me crazy !! it would slide down and not stay in place but if I made it too snug it would make my arm go numb ....then I switches to the fit belt , I really like it , lots of storage and I bearelly notice that is there . one downside is that it does not hold any hydration so it makes it hard during long runs , but I use a camelback pack for that . but during the races there a plenty of water stations .

I had a problem balancing phone storage and hydration during long runs, as well. I found that a combination of the Nathan Trail Mix belt with a Running Buddy pouch added to it work great for the longer runs. The Running Buddy is basically a pouch large enough for an iPhone 6S+ with a magnetic flap. The flap and magnets allow it to be attached to the Nathan belt, providing the additional storage needed, so I've got the water bottles for hydration, the pouch for the phone and the small pocket on the belt for any fuel I want to take.

I've had the same problem! Can't stand the arm bands at all, even though I wish I had one overtime I run on the treadmill since I have to hold my phone for Nike+ to count the run.

I have actually gotten used to running with my phone in my hand and so now it always is, even during races. I still use an ifitness belt at the race to hold my bib (hate putting holes in my shirt), a smaller point and shoot camera, and ID and what not. It's always worked well for me, and like you said, there's plenty of water on the race course. During practice runs, I make loops back closer to my house where I have water bottles outside and ready to go. I'm even thinking about stashing water and friend's houses that I cross on some of my longer routes...

I carry my phone in my hand too. Actually works pretty well for me but not sure I'd do it for a full. I can't stand to have arm bands, fuel belts, or anything else strapped to me on a run. Drives me crazy.

I run holding my phone, too. I got a cheap silicone case on eBay and attached a sticky thing with a hand strap. It's easier to hold and there's a pocket for cards/money/etc.

I'm a fan of ArmPocket. It comes in a variety of sizes and mine is even big enough to hold my iPhone 6S in a LifeProof case and still has room for keys, money, and gel packets if needed.

@Sailormoon2- I couldn't find your original post so I quoted surde22's. But I first heard of the Roo pouch from the MTA podcast. They had a booth at this year's marathon expo and I got one. Now I have gotten rid of my arm band (I had an Arm Pocket). This thing is great. It carries my phone and my nutrition. Best part is, I don't need to get a new arm band every time I get a new phone now.

They have different colors too.

Does no one run with their phone in their pocket? I find Nike shorts have deep enough pockets to hold my Note 3 (which is a bigger phone too), so I don't bother with a band or anything like that.

I find it to be flying around too much in my shorts so I hold onto my phone. I have an iPhone 6 Plus.

I can't run with a phone in my pockets. It bounces around to much and I feel like it will fall out.
