Marathon Weekend 2017!

I hope there is lightning within distance of the course at least once an hour tomorrow morning.. I can't imagine the choice, but think about volunteers that need to be there earlier and longer, and of course us. No easy choice

This is a great point and one I think we tend to overlook. Those volunteers are out there hours before us and their safety is just as important as ours. Thanks for bringing it up.

My roommate and I are still planning to run, just after the storms have died down at some point. I was kind of prepared for this news, I had been mentally preparing for all outcomes. I was kind of looking forward to running in the rain, but I would rather be safe too and in warm, dry shelter instead of out in the elements while a decision is made.

Florida weather has been so crazy this year, everything has kind of been out of season and what not. I would not be surprised to see the weather die down and it be fine to run, but I agree with runDisney that it is not worth the safety risk.

Plus a lot of those stops where the volunteers are do not have shelter close by... like on World Drive.

DD & DSiL received official word of cancellation from Disney a few minutes ago. DD sobbing at our table. She's heartbroken - that was the main focus of the trip for them (that and running 5K with us). Now they're trying to figure out whether they could rebook their flight and run the full instead, which is one of Disney's offers. The other is a refund in form of a Disney gift card.

She's heartbroken - that was the main focus of the trip for them (that and running 5K with us). Or race deferral they could run next year. Either way that really sucks for them. It sucks for all of us running but I feel for the ones who are just running the half.

Just ran into a couple whose daughter was registered to run and they are PISSED. "They just don't want to spend the money! We've been here all week spending money!"

I think part of the problem and why they chose to cancel, is there is no where to evacuate us to in case of lightning. With Wine and Dine they could shove everyone in ESPN. This weekend? The nearest structure is half a mile down the road we came.
