Marathon Weekend 2016

November!
Running Miles = 27.8
Running Time = 6 hours 34 minutes
Average Pace = 14:09 min/mile

This is pretty pathetic training considering this time includes a 3:15 half marathon. LOL. But, I do like the average page considering this included a 3:15 half marathon.

DOONEY! DOONEY! DOONEY!

It ABSOLUTELY could be mental and I wouldn't be surprised if it is. I just cant seem to re-find my comfortable stride. I do run with music; maybe it's time to find a new playlist and turn it up. :)

You could also try some podcasts. disunplugged or old episodes of The Marathon Show. I listen to the old episodes of the Disney races when I need a boost in motivation. Joe has so much energy and is so excited that it reminds me why I love running these races and running in general.

YES, I hate that. I especially hate when United does it because they don't text or email me...so I have learned to open my reservation every once in awhile to check. Arg!

If you install their app on your phone and request push notifications for your flight, you'll get notified. I don't know why they can't do this based on the info in your profile, and this is the best work-around that I've found.

Does anyone have any experience with driving to the race. (This would be for the half) We have something planned that morning and I would like to figure out the fastest way to get back after the race.
We are staying at the Boardwalk Inn so I am wondering if it would be faster if I drove to the start of the race and parked so I could drive back after I finished.
Compared to taking a shuttle to the start.
Do the shuttles running through the whole race so if I finish around a 1:40 time I can go hop on into head back to the boardwalk.

We have driven from BW before. It's faster than the bus on the way to the race, gives you a chance to stay in a warm car if it's cold, and makes it easy to get back after the race too.

Unless I go with the worlds longest taper! I am thinking I will do 6 this weekend, then 8, then 9, then drop down to around 4 miles the last couple of weekends before the half. And hope that my body remembers enough. I need a POT for the dark side challenge that isn't filled with photo stops, injuries, or an extra mile.

"World's Longest Taper" - I had to laugh at this as I was saying this yesterday as I'm injured with a glute injury so was like what's wrong with a month + taper as I try to justify my poor training right now. I'm just hoping come dopey time my years of running will override the slow down on training & if I have to walk I will. And deep tissue massages hurt....like really hurt.

Thanks - I have the app but had the notifications turned off. They are turned back on now. :)

According to the cast members at the "Tren-D" store in Disney Springs, there will be special RunDisney phone covers/cases available during Marathon Weekend. They didn't know (or weren't offering) anything beyond that...number of designs, types of designs, price, etc.

I think they had it when we were there for Princess Weekend last year. I didn't really pay attention to pricing or designs because I have a weird sized phone and can't usually get those cases, but I remember seeing it - I think it was all "on demand" stuff - you pick the design and they print it for you. I'm not 100% sure, though.

They had them for marathon weekend last year but they only had designs for the half or the full. They were available at d-tech on demand in the marketplace co-op.

I am interested in hearing about the Space Coast run. It will be one of the future Florida half or full runs I do after the January February and April Disney runs are completed.
Just got back last night from my trip for the Space Coast full and a couple of days at Disney afterwards,as far as the marathon its a great event, the only negative I saw was trying to find parking race morning,if you stay at a few certain hotels they do have a shuttle from them but if driving it was kinda like a find what you can.I was running the full which started 30 minutes after the half so I didn't try and get there super early but I still got there almost an hour before the half start and I had to do about 5 loops of the area before I found a magical spot behind the Elks lodge. As far as the course its really pretty with plenty of unique houses on one side and the Indian river on the other. But you're still running two out and backs, first you go north on Indian river Dr for about 6.5 miles to then come back and run through the race start to then do the same going 6.5 miles south of the start. There was a definitely a lot of support on the course,25 water and Gatorade stops with GU gels at pretty much all of them and tons of residents out to cheer, one of them even set up a bar in front of their house. The finish line had pizza, pancakes, scrambled eggs,OJ and coke and I like the way you run the circle in the park at the finish line.As far as my race I PR'ed it by 4 minutes but I couldn't go under 5 hours as I hoped.I did not get a good nights sleep and my quads were really tight near the end of the race,I couldnt run much more than 30 seconds at a time close to the finish.I also ran the first 13.1 just 3 minutes off my best time just over 2:10,that shows how much I drop in the second half. But a PR is a PR,hopefully I'll break that 5 hour mark one day,It'll be hard as I only do a limited number of fulls, but someday!!

They had them last year for the half, marathon and Dopey (can't remember if they had Goofy) at D-Tech on Demand. I got a marathon case...there was an option to add my name but I didn't do that because 1. I didn't want to and 2. It would have cost extra.

Twitter announcement for last year's cases (so yeah, no Goofy option...weird). You can see they have the prices listed...I remember I was able to use some sort of discount with this, must have been an AP discount:

The one I ended up getting...so you can see there were color options as well:

My November mileage before my injury - 77 miles. Not bad for 10 days, but I am officially done running for the year and have deferred the 2016 Dopey.

As posted last week, I went to my doctor who (after X-rays) was not sure of my diagnosis but thought it was tendonitis. He recommended that I give it two weeks then see a podiatrist if things had not improved. Things still had not improved at all on Monday so I went ahead and made the appointment - saw the podiatrist this morning. Short story now made long - I have stress fractures in my left foot and am not allowed to run for 6 weeks. In an air cast through the end of December, then slowly weaned off. The good news - this bone injury will heal completely and not impact my running in the future. The podiatrist assured me that this was a much better diagnosis than tendon or ligament injuries given my love of running. So I'll stay positive and accept that which I cannot change.

We will still be in WDW for the races. We are actually headed down for the New Year's celebration so will be there for 2 weeks before our cruise. But no races for me.

Keep up the good work and I hope to see some of you in WDW. I'll be there cheering you on.

Sorry to hear the bad news. The good news is now you know what the problem is and like your Dr stated, a fracture is better than a soft tissue issue. You have a set time frame on when things will be back to normal. I hope you enjoy your time at Disney, it is after all the happiest place on Earth.

If we are going off Wine and Dine, I am predicting tornados. Maybe actual flying cats and dogs.
I've got money on locusts. Whole plagues of 'em. ;)

I'm so sorry. :( But speaking as someone with chronic tendon issues from a bad sprain/ poor heal 30 years ago... yes, you're in a way better spot with bones that like to heal up! I'm glad you got a solid diagnosis; sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery!

Sorry to hear of your injury, but so glad that you are taking care of yourself and were able to defer to 2016. Best wishes in your recovery! :)

I'm really sorry to hear about the fracture, but I'm glad that it's something that doesn't mean long term damage and that you were able to defer. Let us know where you are going to be chearing so people can wave at ya.

I'm not sure. I haven't decided if Wine and Dine can be used as an indicator of what to expect for other races or if it's just cursed. I'm pretty sure that it's just the running gods were upset with Disney for getting rid of the tower of terror 10k so they decided to turn Wine and Dine into it in it's place.

Oh, man ... my heart just sank reading this. But I'm happy to see you're still taking the trip and seem to be in a relatively good headspace about the whole thing.

Sending you healing vibes!

Sorry to hear you will be missing the race, but it sounds like good news in the long run (no pun intended). And you still get a nice long trip to WDW out of it so there are bright sides. Take care of that foot!

Wow! I completely missed these...both the announcements on Twitter and the cases at D-Tech. I would have loved to get one! Maybe it's a (very tiny) blessing since I just recently changed phones.

Thanks for posting the pix!

No problem! Easy to miss since Downtown Disney is who posted them, not runDisney...so I'd recommend following Disney Springs on Twitter that weekend.

I don't know why they don't have those designs available all the time...since they are printed on demand it's not like they take up physical space to keep in the store, ya know?

I wonder if they'll do them for MagicBands too, since they're printing MBs on demand now as well ...
