Marathon Weekend 2016

This whole weekend I've been having non-buyers remorse over not signing up for Tinkerbell ... I think I'll be like this every race weekend until January
Totally agree with this every time there is a race weekend I wish I am there.

After missing out on W&D, I have registered for Marathon Wknd as my first RD race (thanks for the registration links, Keels).

Now, having signed up for the 1/2 and 10k, I am regretting not going Goofy instead of just 1/2! From the RD page it looks like I should be able to upgrade the 1/2 to Goofy, but I'm a bit unclear on the process? Can anyone help clarify it? It looks like I'm supposed to just register for the Goofy and apply for a refund on the 1/2. Is that right?

I'm a bit concerned about waiting for RD to get back to me, as Goofy is showing 93% full and I'm sure they have their hands full with Tink this weekend! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend calling runDisney. I switched from the full to the Goofy back for the 2013 Weekend. If I remember correctly, there is a transfer request form and a fee (or maybe just the difference). It's an easy process but contact them first to know the right way to handle.

I strongly caution against on relying on anything close to resembling refund...trying to get money from Active or RunDisney is like trying to get Michael Bay to stop using pyro in his movies.

10k done today Florida summer we meet again old friend
I hear ya. My 6 miles Sat was pretty darned warm. I'm NOT complaining - I much prefer to run in the heat to cold! But it's always hard, this time of year, to watch my pace slow way down. By mid-July I won't care what my time looks like, though: so long as I finish without heat stroke, it'll be a win lol!

Question: is there an app that times your run walk intervals for races? Which is a good one to get?
I'm partial to iSmoothRun, which I sync to RunKeeper. I prefer iSmooth's voice over, which pops in and out quickly, over RunKeeper's, which takes too long to spit it out. Plus iSmooth tracks mileage on all of my shoes.

I agree with you completely. It will be a lot of before the sun comes up runs.

Hoping someone can help me out with this. I'm trying to get into the earliest corral as possible for the half at marathon weekend. I've always been in E for the half which is roughly 2:00-2:10 completion time. Right now my PR for the half is 1:55:12 (got it this year) which is roughly a 8:48 MM pace. I know I can run a 10K closer to an 8:00 MAYBE even sub-8:00 MM pace.

My question is, with a 10K submittal, will they adjust the time to a half?

This will be my first rundisney event as both a runner and as a spectator. I will be cheering for my husband for the half. I'm assuming I will have enough time to see him off at Epcot and then go to MK and then meet him back at the finish? He runs about a nine mile. Is there a place to see the start of the race? How often do you get alerts if you sign up for tracking? And last, but not least, will I be able to get coffee somewhere during this time?

From what I understand, rD uses the McMillan pace calculator to determine paces. You can check your 10k pace versus your half pace by finding the calculator online. Should give you a better idea what time to submit.

If I recall, alerts are given ever 5 miles. So 5, 10, and finish are the alerts you will probably get during the half. Can someone confirm this? I know in the full they given alerts every 5 miles and I thought the half would be the same.

You should have enough time to make it to MK and back to EPCOT. Once you separate, just immediately go to MK and you should receive an alert before he enters MK (MK is basically the 6-mile point). There is places to see the start, but there are some many people per corral it would be very hard to spot them without prior set-up.

Thanks. I remembered the time I submitted for my full last year and should have just thought a little bit. But your help is appreciated!

The segment alerts for the full are at the 5 mile, 10 mile, half, 20 mile, and finish.

The half segments are at the 5k, 10k, 15k, and finish.

Thank you!! I'll feel better knowing how much time I have to get to each stop. So MK is about the 10K for the half?

You pass Mile Marker 5 right as you're getting to MK...near where the buses turn in for the bus stop area. Mile Marker 6 is in Frontierland.

As Ariel has said, the 5 mile marker is just past where the buses turn in. You turn in where the security gate is.

The 6 mile marker is by the Country Bear Jamboree.

And anyone can go into MK to spectate for the full marathon right? You don't have to have the chEAR package or anything?

Yes anyone can go into the MK and watch. They will rope off the left hand side of Main Street for the spectators. The right half of Main Street is for the runners. The runners enter thru the big gate between Tony's and the shops. You can go down to the hub and that is as far as you can go. CM's and rope will make sure that you do not go into any lands from there. All of the corrals should be out of the MK before the park opens on both days. They will clear Main Street.

The Cheer Squad will get prime viewing locations directly in front of the castle and hot chocolate. The hub is not completely roped off for the cheer squad. The sides of the hub at good spots too. This is where everyone else stands to see their runners coming thru the castle. Left side is the better side.

This is from the left side and not in the cheer squad area

Hey congrats on a sub 2 hour half marathon! That is awesome. I am trying to get under 2 hours myself, but have four minutes to shave still (and I barely survived that run).

I'm assuming I will have enough time to see him off at Epcot and then go to MK and then meet him back at the finish? Yes you will have time to see DH at the start, in the MK, entering Epcot and at the finish line. He runs about a nine mile. Is there a place to see the start of the race? Yes there is a place to watch the start. The start is on the mail road. From the pre race stage area there will be signs indicating where to go to watch the start. How often do you get alerts if you sign up for tracking? The alerts will should come to your phone in about a minute after the runner crosses the timing strip. Notice I said should. I have gotten alerts a could of hours after the runners i was tracking crossed the finish line. And last, but not least, will I be able to get coffee somewhere during this time? I can't help with the coffee. I can't stand the stuff

If you are going to watch your DH and take pictures, the best advice will be for your DH to line up on the left side of the corral. He will be a lot easier to find.

Below is a friend I was shooting the event for. Pink shirt center frame.

I went back to 2012 and found the pics I had taken of friends running. There will be signs letting you know where to go for the spectator viewing

To go with the earlier post telling your DH to start on the left side of the corral if you want to see him at the start.

You just might spot him while on the monorail

You can only do 1 of the 2 sightings/photo ops. Stay at the TTC until DH goes by

and then head to the Poly

or go to the MK and Main Street and the castle.

You will have time to get back to Epcot. Just might see him on the way back.

When you get off of the monorail head to where the runners will be entering Epcot. When he goes by head across the parking lot to the finish.

I did the photos for my friends 2010 thru 2013. 2014 and 2015 I decided to run with them instead. All pics now are from the cell. I am not sure I want to take my latest Nikon on the course with me although it takes great pics.
