Sorry about ther late start everyone. But late is better then never.... right?

I had 6 miles to walk today. I did it in good time for me- 1:48:13- that just over 18 minute miles. Still have a ways to go to get it down to 16 minutes/mile- but I'll whittle that timing away (hopefull) sooner or later.

I am so impressed by everyone's efforts last week. We are jusr rolling along aren;'t we?!?!?!

Grammy- OUCH!!! :earseek: :earseek: I'm sorry to hear about your tooth! i used to work as a dental assistant back in the day- adn I remember how people hated to hvae those root canals! When are you supposed to have it done? DISCIPLINE - that's what I call what you have! To be bale to resist what you were so strongly wanting to do- that's diapline! WTG in staying with the walking! I'm afraid i would've used my chipmunk cheeks to cancel my walk!!!:p

Cheryl- glad to hear your little kiddle (anyone remember those??? Which one did you have? I had the little fire guy!) is enjoying her new school. It's such a relief when you know your kids are liking their school! Keep up the good work and working out!

Debbie- i think your time on the 10K was great! CONGRATULATIONS on finishing it!! You deserve a special cheer!!! -:worship: :cheer2: :thewave: WOOHOOO TO YOU!!!!

Colleen- CONGRATS to you too!!! Was that you're first ever half? That time is very good!! You too deserve a big cheer!! :worship: :cheer2: :thewave: I'm so impressed that you did that! WOW!!!

Beckie- your time on that first mile was OUTSTANDING! Did you continue at that pace???

Susan- how did YOU do on that little walk you took with your sisters???

Monica- you'll settle back into walking as soon as the bulk of the packing/moving work is done. That can be a very overwhelming thing! Don't forget we're here for you if you need support! The info on "THE HILL" is valuable to me. Thanks for posting it! it sounds like it can't be that bad if you didn't really even notice it until you had sat down in the restaurant to eat and noticed you were looking downhill! That gives me hope! Thanks!

Molli- I'm with you on the early to bed the night beofre the marathon thing! We'll get done easrly. How about we all have dinner together (spaghetti at say 5:30- and we'll see about the poster making thing afterward?? BTW- my real name is Karen- karebear is one of 2 nicknames my daddy gave me when I was a kid..... if only we had capitolized on the name beofre saomeone else did!!!

Well- I'm off to the shower and then to bed. Have a great week ladies!

good morning to you Karen. thanks for starting our thread!

Colleen -- wooooo hoooo!!!!!!!!!!

i'm very impressed with your time and completion of your 1/2! it makes it seem so real and attainable for me too ;)

monica -- thanks for the thoughts on the hill from me too -- I have a hill at the end of my trail and I always wonder "Is this comparable to the Contemporary Hill?" it's about .2 mile long with a steady incline; never steep but steady all the way.

cyber high five to everyone in their progress! it's so motivating!

today I'm doing my powerwalk mid-morning; got to bed too late last night after watching Road to Perdition. I got Marathoning for Mortals from the library last week and started to look through it last night; but I think I first better do some reading on my parenting book called "The Roller Coaster Years" :rotfl: My oldest DD is pushing her limits and I need some strategizing!

Good Monday Morning Everyone,

As Debbie has already said on last week's thread we did the 10K in 1 hour and 40 minutes. My rear end is a little more sore today than the day before the 10K. I am very pleased with my time as I only started a committed training schedule 6 weeks ago. I had hurt my leg back in the spring and that took over 2 months to get over. I am very cautious about doing something that will reinjure that leg.

In our little town of about 1000 people, we had 85 participants in the Terry Fox Run for cancer research. We raised over $7000!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I don't know how much was raised worldwide yesterday but it is in the millions and millions of dollars. If Terry could run 42km a day on one real leg and one artificial leg I knew I could walk 6 miles on my two good legs. He is truly an inspiration to all of us and a Canadian hero!!

My real name is Susan and I'm from Ontario. Real imaginative screen name eh??

I think the spaghetti dinner is a great idea and then we can all get a good night's rest before our 4am corral call. It was pretty cold when we started the run yesterday, maybe 45 degrees F. It was good practice for the marathon. However, we had the sun to warm us up. I don't think they'll be much sun when we're in Florida in January at that time of the morning. I have yet to figure out what I'm going to do about clothing. I won't have any extra time to be stopping to take off clothes.:hyper:

Have a super day everyone!!:sunny:

Susan- Way to GO!!!!! $7000 is incredible! What a great contribution.

I was able to do a 10 mile jog/walk yesterday. I did it in 2 hours 20 minutes. I jogged 8 miles and walked 2. The weather was perfect, about 60 deg F with a gentle breeze. My back is hurting today, though. I think it is from wearing a fanny pack with water and cell phone (about 2 lbs).

I'm not looking forward to my second WI at WW today. Saturday I really blew it. Maybe my 10 miles will undo the damage? We'll see soon!

Keep on keeping on everyone::yes::

Sundie

Well, I finally made it here. Been away from WISH and my marathon buddies for way too long. I did the 10K Terry Fox yesterday with Debbie and Susan. I completed the 10K (approx 6 miles) in 1 hour and 30-35 minutes. I got into a real momentum about the 4K mark and never looked back. I have a 1/2 marathon in Niagara Falls ON in 5 weeks, so I need to get some more miles under my belt. It's not "timed" though, but my goal is to complete it in the 3 1/2 hours. I'm also moving that same week, so we'll see how everything goes.

I love the idea of the WISH people doing the pasta dinner on the Sat night. Count me in for that one. I suspect that when we return to the hotel that night, my DH, DS, DD and my DBIL will tell us how much they enjoyed O'Hana's -- yup, wouldn't put it past 'em to go there without me :teeth:

Glad to be back here with all of you. I will do my best to post my training successes as the weeks progress.

Mary-Liz

Well I have been totally off plan all weekend. So...here I am starting over. I'm going to get my walk in when the kids are at school.

We still don't have a completed bathroom (imagine that:rolleyes:). My Dh is a fantastic guy and can do so many things, but he is horrble with time. However, I know the bathroom is going to be great when it's done. Thank goodness I have a large kitchen sink and my children are still small eough to fit in it. It's been more of an adventure for DH and I to keep clean.

My name is Dawn and I live near Schenectady, NY. As my name indicates, I'm the mom of twins...4 yrs old...Spencer and Katie. DH is Carl. We'll all be coming to the marathon. I think the pasta dinner is a great idea. I would think your family could come too. Anyone know for sure?

just wanted to post I did get my powerwalk in -- 4.5 miles in about one hour -- off to clean clean clean!

Yep! Families can come to the spaghetti dinner!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!

Molli -- just wanted to say that power-walking 4.5 miles in an hour is very impressive ::yes::

Mary-Liz

Now - isn't that great! - YEP it is - called specialist at 7 AM and they had a noon cancellation so guess what I did for lunch! Very, very numb cheek but shuold be okay later for some light dinner :p
Okay that event is check-marked off my list and time to move on !thanks to everyone for feeling the "ouchs" for me - appreciate your kind thoughts.

I did get up early and tmilled 3 miles - actually went fast watched the Jane Pauley show and tricks on how to look "better" - I really liked the one where the gal had her tattoo removed - she didn't think it was what she wanted her daughter to focus on - we do get smarter as we get older don't we? and bet there are some docs out there making some big bucks too - actually it looked PAINFUL!

Love reading about all the WISH successes on this thread - times are improving and I "feel" the excitement!

Off to rest a few minutes and then things to do :wave2:

Hi everyone,
Congratulations on all your terrific training efforts. I have only posted a time or two to this thread but my sister MaryLiz kind of insisted that I post today. I've been doing a lot of outdoor walking for the better part of a year now. Yesterday my DH and I managed to walk 13.1 miles. When we started I refused to let him hurry me because I just wanted to be able to complete the task at a comfortable pace. We were walking at about a 17-minute mile on the way to our destination (which included a few hills). On the way back, our time was much quicker because we were now going downhill. We were back at the car in 3 hours, 28 minutes and my pedometer said 13 miles. I made him walk the extra 1/10 of a mile in the last 2 minutes so I could say that I had done the "official" length of a 1/2 marathon. It was really exciting to be able to do the walk in exactly the time Disney allots us. Of course I never stopped to use the restroom - so I'm going to have to speed up somewhat to allow for that in January.:hyper:
I just wanted to let you all know that if a 45-year-old non-athlete (you know - the "last-to-be-picked" in gym class type of person) can walk this 1/2 marathon, then you guys will have no problem either. I can honestly say that I wasn't in too much pain afterwards. I took Advil at bedtime, used a 'magic bag' on my ankle which was a bit sore and woke up today feeling just fine. I can't believe that in 16 weeks it will be all over. . . Have a great week!
Nancy

Good for you Nancy!! That is an admireable feat!! I am still in the working towards 13.1 stage.
Well , I got a 6.5 on Sat. and Sun. I did not run but I dragged, raked, fertilized and seeded my 100 X 40 feet back yard. It is the first lawn for this house so it took a bit of extra work. (My gluts are aching today) I was planning on watering and reseeding the second bag today but it started pouring at 6:00 am and quit about 1 hour ago. It is supposed to rain again tonight! Just hope my lawn germinates. I went to my fitness club and did 45 min. of curcuit and olip bike. When I got off the bike a lady said," You look so tired!" I was dripping with sweat! I think some of them just come to chat and never break a sweat. I go to sweat and work. To each their own. Sat. I do my first official race (10K). I'm pretty excited.

I think we will be flying in on Sat. afternoon and am hoping to get to the Spaghetti feed. Is it at the Sports Center (ESPN) ? Be patient. I have never been to WDW and don't have any idea where things are. We will be staying offsite and am hoping to just take it easy on Sat. evening and be in bed by 9:00. Have any of you received a recent marathon newsletter?

I'm so glad to hear that all are still working at your miles and time. We will cross at our own pace (under 16) and be victorious!! Have a great week!!!

Did Curves yesterday. I like to consider those 3 days a week as "cross-training", at least that's my story and I'm stickin' to it :p
NancyK -- I'm soooooo proud of you! I was hopeful that you and I would be able to do the Niagara Falls 1/2 marathon in the 3.5 hours and now I'm positive that we can -- especially since there are NO restrooms/port-a-potties along the route so no time to stop for a restroom break :hyper: LOL - that little "hyper guy" will be ME at the finish line desperately looking for a bathroom -- see how he seems to be dancing like he really needs to go !!! :teeth:

Bev -- glad that everything went OK for you.

Happy training as the week progresses !

Mary-Liz

Happy Tuesday everyone:wave:

I need to go read the end of last week but wanted to post her first.
Walked 2.25 miles yesterday. Sun forgot pedometer but walked with dm for almost 2 hours, slow but steady :) Today I'm feeling sooo tired so maybe a walk after dinner not sure, we'll see.

Spag dinner sounds great ,where & what time? what was decision of GG Karebear? too bad you didn't copy right that name, amazing how they are the in thing again. I just bought a carebear shirt for my 15 yr old niece, she loves them.

You are all doing so fantastic, keep it up:Pinkbounc :bounce:

WOW!!! You guys are amazing!!! Your numbers are awe-inspiring.....a goal for me to obtain.

I ended up doing only 1/2 of what was expected of me yesterday. Plan was to do 5 min warm up, 32 min of interval training (3 min walking/1 min running--8 sets), then 5 min cool down. I did the warm up, then only managed 4 intervals, and the cool down. I'm a little disappointed, but I know it will get better. I'm doing a program that is a 14 week schedule, and I know that the 14 week cut off is not until the 3rd of October. Today was supposed to be a 1/2 hr cross training day and tomorrow a rest day - but I've switched those around due to my schedule.

Has anyone heard from Beth yet? Want to make sure she's ok.

Is anyone going to the World in Oct? I'm tentatively going back (this time to really look for a place to live :D ) the 11th-14th...but this may change depending on if I can schedule any interviews earlier.

BTW (a reply to last week's post)...my nickname is pronounced "me-shoe"

I got in a 60 min. slow run/walk (19 min. miles) today. The weather here was great for running, 60 degrees ,no rain, no wind. Yesterday we got between 3.5 and 4 inches of rain!! My yard survived. My knee feels great! I had my Left ACL replaced in March of 2003. It was a long recoverery but well worth it. So I am on my way to the 10 K this weekend. It sounds like great weather on Sat. My girls are out of town for soccer and hubby is going to a business meeting/dinner. I will have the evening to myself. I'm going to do some research on off site motels and airfare deals.
Mishoe01 - Any time spent on your health is a plus. Keep at it because each step is a step forward and towards your goal. I too couldn't even walk to miles with out dropping. Now I run and walk up to 6 once a week and look forward to it. Am I crazy?
Tried the chat room last night but had hard time reading it. It flashed on and off and I was getting dizzy. Thank Goodness my mom called. It was fun but I must not be doing it right. I'll tryit again.
Have a great Tues. evening!!

Well - hard to drag my buns out this AM but I did and tmilled for 2 miles and did a few knee exercises. slow day at work - I am a receptionist and I love it - especially now since I have been there 1 year I get to use my acrued vacation - 4 weeks! Yep, got to "bring along" my service credit working for government so it rewards me with some nice time off. Oh well now where was I - oh yes - it really is a very easy, non-stressful position - almost like semi-retirement :teeth:

Tonight went to the yoga hour class and it was a nice time of just stretching and relaxation. I don't plan on doing much after that hour either. Just sipping some vanilla decaf tea - keeping the spirit of relaxation going ;)

Tomorrow, finally, I am back to Curves, I do hope that all the things that have slowed me down there are over and I can get back into a routine of 3 days there.

I really want to do something other than tmilling in the AM but I tape O and it looked like a good one today - so bet I just end up watching it - maybe I will be energentic and do some fast-slow stuff - we'll see.

Decaff - you will get the hang of chat - sometimes it does go fast and I can't answer fast enough and then folks just move on - last night was a good night if one is a WW plan follower. I don't know anything about the trip planning board area - but you might want to check that out for some tips for your trip planning.

Well - looking forward to tomorrow cause then we are one day closer to the weekend - Have a good one - cheers to everyone who is doing so darn well!

I went back and read last week and everything up to here.
:earseek: Everyone is certainly getting there for sure. I am so thrilled to read about the progress here.

I am up for spagetti Saturday. I will be trying to turn in early, however I know I will probably get very little sleep. :hyper:

I've been improving on distance. I thought I was doing a pretty good pace. I feel a bit down as my brother walked with me Sunday for my 4 miles in about an hour and said that while I am doing a pretty good pace, if I don't push up in distance soon I may not make it. :( (He has done marathon and half previously, I just can't use him as a training partner as he is not able to run as he used to.) I told him of my plan and I told younger DS making sure he promised to not think me crazy before I told. I am starting to tell, just not everyone will know what it is I am doing.

So, I went Monday and did about 6 miles I think in about 90 minutes. I did walk today while DH was at PT and did 10 laps there at the outdoor "track" in 56 minutes. They say 5 laps=2 miles. I think I am keeping steady so far. I kind of like my time on Monday and hope that is close to real. Six miles is the most I've gone so far. I plan to keep at that distance for a couple times this week.

Blisters on my heels from the new shoes finally gone. Shoes are fine there. Now I am dealing with blisters on my toes! I wonder if this will ever stop.

Canada friends...what date is the 1/2 in Niagara? I thought someone posted it earlier, I just can't seem to locate that. Five weeks would put it some time near the last week or two I'm guessing.

Good night. I need to hit it if I plan to get to work and on the path tomorrow afterward.

Hello, all! I'm here....

I exercised tonight, but not last night. I am on my way to bed, but wanted to let ya'll know....

I did aqua aerobics iwth my Mom again, which is awesome. Tomorrow I am meeting with a personal trainer and am TERRIFIED! His name is Chris and he is going to test my body fat percentage. Exactly the motivation I need to help me on my way. I am just concerned that Chris looks something like one of the guys I spent all of aqua-aerobics drooling over. I mean, sure I have a boyfriend, but I can look when I am at the health club and there are men prancing between pool, locker rooms, hot tubs, and saunas, rihgt? Honestly... I am NOT the only guilty party here!

Anyway... That's what's on my agenda! I hope you all are doing well! From the sounds of it, you are!

Our group is definitely growing!

Newbies, please send me your:

as soon as you have a chance. Then I can update the roster and can get some fun, inspirational mailings out! I know there are more of you out there!

Keep it up, ladies! Your hard work is my inspiration!

Thanks for being here,
Ashley:wave2:

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone,

I just wanted to say that when the schedule says you should have a rest day I guess they mean it. I did the 6 miles on Sunday and then on Monday night I went for a 25 minute walk with my DD. Yesterday I was even more sore than I was on Monday. So, yesterday I didn't go for a walk and today I'm feeling pretty good. Tonight we'll do our long walk because last night I had a few tears because we weren't going for our "walk in the troller". I told her I had a meeting and she said okay, I go with you to meeting. I think she likes our Mommy time.

Tiger Lily the Niagara Half Marathon is October 24th.

On a side note, I was checking out the times from last year's run and there are people listed who took 17 and 18 minute mile paces. Does anyone know if they got their medal? I'm trying to find an email address to email them with all my questions but so far I haven't had much success.

Have an awesome day!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
